Background

Kumogakure repeatedly pursued ocular bloodlines through abduction and coercion. Its agents targeted Uchiha and Hyuga members in Konoha, while its leadership relied on threats of war to demand that Konoha surrender the intended victims as “culprits.” 40 114 122

During the incident involving Sakura and Sasuke, a Kumogakure elite attempted to seize Sakura’s Sharingan after activating Lightning Release Chakra Mode. Itachi Uchiha killed the operative, while the village’s envoy claimed the dead infiltrators had merely been attacked while walking through Konoha. 40

The delegation led by envoy Lei Zang expected Konoha’s leadership to sacrifice Itachi and submit to further demands. Instead, Lu Ming destroyed the delegation, sent one survivor back with a warning, and formally declared war on Kumogakure. 43 44

Kumogakure is renowned for aggressive Lightning Release combat and close-quarters fighting. Defensive Doctrine

The village then shifted to attrition warfare:

Uchiha–Kumogakure War

Outbreak

Kumogakure’s attempted theft of the Sharingan and Byakugan escalated into open conflict after its delegation was destroyed in Konoha. The Uchiha and Hyuga formed an alliance when the Hyuga refused to surrender Hizashi as a scapegoat for killing kidnappers who had targeted Hinata. 40 44 47

Border Collapse

The Uchiha Shrine and Hyuga reconnaissance force struck Kumogakure’s approximately three-thousand-man border camp with a massive artificial thunderstorm. Temple squads combined chakra to create Lightning Cloud Summoning and later prepared Kirin against the charging Raikage. 50 52

Black Cloud Pass fell in less than half a day, followed by the rapid collapse of further checkpoints and outposts. Hyuga scouts exposed ambushes and traps, while Temple squads used coordinated Lightning Release, Fire Release, Sharingan genjutsu, and formation tactics to clear the route toward Kumogakure. 77 78 82

War of Attrition

Kumogakure’s Chakra Cannons and numerical superiority halted the Uchiha’s initial momentum. The Shrine suffered its first casualties when Cloud forces exploited the formation’s weak support members, while Nanami, Tekka, Hizashi, and Itachi became wounded or exhausted. 106

Fugaku’s reinforcements broke the blockade around the Chakra Cannons and stabilized the Temple Formation. With the Uchiha rear secured, Lu Ming concentrated on Killer B and shattered both the Tailed Beast Cloak and the Raikage’s Lightning Armor with a stacked twenty-layer strike. 107

Defeat and Surrender

Kumogakure’s final defenses collapsed after the defeat of the Fourth Raikage, Killer B, Yugito Nii, and the Chakra Cannon positions. Its tailed beasts were suppressed by Uchiha ocular power, leaving its leadership unable to continue resisting. 111

Lu Ming imposed a treaty that forced Kumogakure and the Land of Lightning into unconditional surrender. The agreement included:

• 678 billion ryo in reparations, alongside mineral resources, chakra metal, weapons materials, and military supplies. 129 130

Later Developments

After the war, Kumogakure remained highly wary of the Uchiha’s growth. The Fourth Raikage ordered the protection of village graves and a review of corpses and intelligence after learning that the Akatsuki had used Impure World Reincarnation against the Uchiha. 316

Kumogakure also launched a major intelligence operation into Uchiha activities after reports indicated that the Uchiha Shrine possessed at least seventeen openly deployed Kage-level fighters and potentially dozens more. Darui redirected the investigation toward Uchiha-controlled public industries because the Inner Court could not be infiltrated. 326 327

When Lu Ming later demanded that Kumogakure hand over Akatsuki members believed to be hiding in the Land of Lightning, the village received a ten-day deadline backed by the threat of another Uchiha intervention. 307 316
