Background / History

Madara led the Uchiha during their long conflict with the Senju. He and Hashirama eventually founded Konoha to end the practice of sending their clans’ children into battle. Madara later urged the Uchiha to leave the village, but few followed him; he regarded their decision to stay as a betrayal 188 263.

He fought Hashirama at the Valley of the End and prepared Izanagi to conceal his survival. During the battle, he obtained Hashirama’s flesh, intending to combine their powers, awaken the Rinnegan, gather the Tailed Beasts, and carry out Infinite Tsukuyomi. He believed this Eye of the Moon Plan could create a world without war, betrayal, or pain 266 283.

Ren later identifies Madara as a reincarnation of Indra’s chakra and Hashirama as one of Asura’s. Their connection belongs to a recurring cycle between the Uchiha and Senju bloodlines 220 230.

Appearance

After his summoning, Madara has a youthful body. He is described wearing armor and later appears at the Uchiha gates beneath a cloaked windbreaker 261 270 276.

Personality

Madara judges leaders and fighters by strength. He initially dismisses the modern Uchiha and treats their refusal to leave Konoha with him as betrayal. Reports of Ren’s victory over Hashirama and the clan’s four Mangekyō wielders force him to reassess them 263 264 265.

At the Uchiha Inner Court, Madara sees a prosperous, disciplined clan stronger than the one he once led. Rather than abandon his belief that peace will collapse, he decides to destroy what Ren has built. In battle, he attacks the Inner Court and its residents to force Ren out of intangibility 283 296.

Madara can nevertheless acknowledge an opponent: he accepts Ren as an equal after their clash and admits that Ren has surpassed his own mastery of Susanoo 295 298.

Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan and Divine Foresight

Madara’s Eternal Mangekyō supplies the ocular power for his Susanoo. His dōjutsu, Divine Foresight, shows him several seconds into the future 267 301.
