"Are there hidden steps here?"
The pirates all turned toward their captain. Edwina did not answer. She walked over to the cliff face embedded with skulls and fixed her gaze on one of them.
Sifa looked at that skull. At first, he noticed nothing unusual, but after studying it for a while, he spotted four faint indentations on its forehead. They seemed just large enough to fit four fingers.
Edwina reached out with a gloved hand and pressed it against the skull. Sure enough, the indentations fit four of her fingers perfectly.
"A skull would have to be touched frequently to leave marks. Since these marks are indentations, they must have been caused by pressure. In other words..."
Edwina suddenly pushed hard against the skull. At first, it did not budge. A moment later, it sank inward a little, and a series of clicks and grinding noises sounded inside the mountain. In the empty space beyond the stone steps ahead, a gray stone step wobbled out from the cliff face.
Seeing this, Jodson immediately called out, "Find the skulls with indentations and push them in! Hurry!"
After a flurry of activity from the pirates, more and more stone steps extended from the cliff. Although there were gaps of a dozen centimeters or so between them, with each step around thirty centimeters higher than the last, a stairway to the summit had finally appeared.
However, Edwina did not let the pirates climb immediately. "We have no idea how many years these steps have gone unused. They might break while we're crossing, causing an accident."
Sifa volunteered. "Captain, let me scout ahead."
The Iceberg Admiral knew that he could rise into the air and hover by releasing flames from his feet. The interception of the Big Eater at sea was still fresh
