A burst of scarlet bloomed, blasting the desiccated corpse backward and sending it crashing to the ground. A moment later, however, it staggered to its feet again and stubbornly shambled toward the living.
"Shit!" Danitz couldn't help cursing. He had meant to blow the corpse apart with a fireball, but he had only blasted a hole in its chest instead of killing it outright.
Sifa drew Ghost Scream and spoke a word in Ancient Hermes: "Holy!"
He used Holy Vow to add sacred damage to his attacks, then jumped into the shallow pit to meet the desiccated corpses.
Dodging one corpse's axe, he slashed backward across its ribs, tearing through its skin and flesh. Clear golden flames then rose silently from the wound, engulfing the corpse and making it stagger as it burned.
The others used their own abilities and Demon-Hunting Bullets against the corpses.
With Ghost Scream in hand, Sifa wove among the corpses. Dark gold flashed repeatedly along the katana's edge as he swung it, hacking, slashing, and stabbing, leaving wound after wound on their bodies.
Clear golden flames rose from each wound afterward, purifying the corpses.
The battle didn't last long. Under the onslaught of Ghost Scream, Demon-Hunting Bullets, and various abilities, the corpses that had lingered beside the ship either became golden torches or lay on the ground, dead for good.
But before anyone could breathe a sigh of relief, more corpses staggered out through the broken opening in the hull. It seemed there were still plenty of similar creatures aboard the Styx Ruler.
Danitz covered his face. "At this rate, it'll never end."
Sifa raised his arm, holding Ghost Scream horizontally, and told the people behind him, "Stay back. I'll deal with this."
