A sacred, dazzling light flared over the sea. It shot into the distance, forming a river of stars across the dark waters.
It was magnificent and immensely powerful. Sifa had no doubt that it could sink the Black Death and wipe the Vice Admiral of Ailment off the face of the sea.
The only problem was that the Golden Dream's Purification Cannon had fired in the exact opposite direction from the Black Death!
Sifa could practically feel illusory question marks popping up over his head.
What was wrong with the Iceberg Admiral? Had she made a mistake in command?
That shouldn't be possible. With her abilities, how could she make such an elementary mistake at a critical moment?
Unless...
Just then, faint, illusory mirrors appeared in the air around the burning Black Death ahead of Sifa. Within those mirrors, the Black Death occasionally vanished into thin air.
"Unless the captain was subjected to mystical 'misdirection.'" Sifa hurriedly worked his oars, leaving the area.
He did not believe Tracy would linger and give the Golden Dream a chance to make up for its mistake.
Sure enough, the Black Death unfurled its sails, catching the sea breeze. A great many things were thrown overboard to lighten its load, allowing the flagship Sifa had wrecked to drag its battered hull slowly away from its original position.
Watching the Black Death leave, Sifa distinctly felt signs that the residual potion within him was being digested.
It wasn't much, but some of it really has been digested. What a shame the Purification Cannon didn't fire in the right direction. Otherwise, if Tracy had vanished in that blast, I might have digested more than half my potion...
