At dusk, a squad of Feysac police stood at the exit of Glen Town, their eyes fierce as they watched the outsiders leave one by one, as though keeping a gang of thieves under close surveillance.
Sifa walked among the crowd and left the town under the officers' scrutiny. He followed the others to the docks and boarded a steamship bound for Bayam that the Feysac authorities had designated.
On board, Sifa did not see the red-haired lady, Helene. He had no idea how she had evaded the Feysac authorities' notice, or whether she had already left Sonia Island.
That was entirely possible. After all, it was the safest course for her.
Sifa did not dwell on the question. When the steamship left port, he found an opportunity to slip off it unnoticed and return to Sonia Island.
When he appeared in Glen Town again, Sifa had become a Feysac man nearly two meters tall, with thick eyebrows, large eyes, and a square face.
The Thousand-Faced Traveler could not increase Sifa's body mass, and even his height could only be raised slightly. To achieve the desired effect, he had added some disguises of his own.
He put lifts several centimeters thick inside his shoes and wore several extra layers of clothing to make himself look burly. He focused on adjusting his face until he looked like a typical Feysac man.
Sure enough, as he walked through the streets in this guise, even the police who passed him did not give him a second glance.
Night fell.
Sifa came to White Bear Street and entered a villa facing the mayor's house from a distance. Everyone inside was fast asleep under Kardashian's hypnosis. They would not wake before dawn or disturb Sifa.
Sifa stood by the window, with Kardashian beside him, still
