Sifa made himself look badly wounded and pointed at the opening he had blasted out moments earlier. "He suddenly burst through the window, injured me, then escaped through here."

"He must be a Beyonder. He could conjure fireballs out of thin air."

"Definitely a Pyromaniac," a young soldier cried.

The soldiers of the Feysac Empire were familiar with the Hunter pathway, so they knew exactly which stage of Hunter could produce fireballs.

"Go after him, but don't engage. I'll notify Officer Otlov," a mature-looking soldier called out. He calmly proposed his plan, and his comrades agreed.

The soldiers rushed out in pursuit. Sifa stood up and left the dormitory as though nothing had happened, making his way to the docks.

Explosions still rang out intermittently aboard the warship ahead, amid a clamor of voices. Apparently, the demigod Amyrius was wreaking havoc on board to draw more attention.

"Looks like Shevich really was called away. Otherwise, he couldn't have failed to sense Amyrius's presence. That's a demigod's presence, after all, and they've fought before."

Sifa looked up again toward the distant sea, at the illusory door that seemed to lead into heaven. It stood upon the water, so enormous that over a dozen warships could easily pass through it at once. He just didn't know how long it could last.

Three Feysac warships lay near that illusory door, clearly serving as escorts for Clarence's Door. The door's physical form might be aboard one of those ships.

Sifa looked around and spotted a landing boat. He jumped aboard. Landing boats in this world still used oars, naturally, and Sifa rowed, gradually pulling away from the docks.

Once he had put some distance between himself and the docks, he discarded the oars, sat at the stern, and braced his feet
