Klein nodded. "I know, but not particularly well. Teacher, could you explain it to me?"
Although Klein had indeed learned of the Acting method through Rosell's Diary, he could hardly be considered proficient. At most, he was still feeling his way through it.
Now that he had Luo Lin as a conveniently acquired teacher, Klein naturally would not put on airs. He would ask when he needed to ask; otherwise, what was the point of calling him teacher?
"Actually, I don't know that much about the Acting method either. After all, I'm just a newbie Beyonder myself. But in my understanding, acting is like immersive method acting—completely placing yourself into a role, thereby gaining a certain kind of recognition and power. The name of the potion is the role we need to embody."
Luo Lin scratched his head as he explained his understanding of the Acting method. Of course, he could have copied the original novel word for word, but there was no need. Luo Lin always remembered that his current persona was someone from a distinguished family line who knew many secret matters, yet was still only a newbie Beyonder himself.
A newbie did not need a profound understanding of the Acting method. As long as the general direction was right, that was enough.
Hearing Luo Lin call himself a "newbie Beyonder," Klein's brow twitched involuntarily. Still, he was not particularly surprised. He had long suspected the other man was a transmigrator; this merely confirmed it completely.
"But there's one crucial point..." Luo Lin's expression suddenly turned serious as he looked at Klein. "No matter what, you must remember that you're only acting. You are not the character itself."
Klein froze. He had originally been thinking that Jack's understanding of the Acting method truly was not very profound, but at that moment, he felt as though he had been struck by enlightenment.
The Acting method, the Acting method—it could only be acting. One could not become so immersed in the role that one forgot oneself.
Otherwise... losing control might be right around the corner.
"The Beyonder world really is full of danger everywhere..." Klein sighed inwardly, then looked at Luo Lin and said solemnly, "I understand. Thank you, Teacher."
This time, he called him teacher with genuine sincerity.
If Klein had originally called Luo Lin teacher the way he might have called his roommate dad to get him to bring back food—a little respect, but not much—then now, he truly felt a degree of sincere respect for Luo Lin.
Although their teacher-student relationship had been established rather casually, no matter what, the other man was genuinely teaching him.
"Hey, you suddenly got so serious that I'm a little embarrassed..." Luo Lin raised a hand and scratched his head, revealing a timely hint of helplessness as he stammered,
"Actually, I was joking just now. We're such good friends; it's only right that I teach you some things. When I asked you to call me teacher, it was really like asking you to call me Dad... Uh, you probably don't understand that."
Klein did not know whether to laugh or cry. After thinking about it, he kindly reminded him, "Is it possible that this is only our third meeting?"
Honestly, Klein rather admired Luo Lin's relaxed air. The other man truly gave him the feeling that it would not be surprising if he entered society one day and got scammed. He had the clear-eyed innocence of a college student.
Luo Lin could naturally guess what Klein was thinking. In fact, this was exactly the effect he had deliberately created—for a good person like Klein, someone who was highly capable in other areas but had a simple personality and needed looking after would instead make it easier to close the distance between them.
But knowing that did not stop Luo Lin from continuing to act. He refuted him with a completely earnest expression, "You don't understand. This is called feeling like old friends at first sight. I mean, I don't know how to put it. The moment I saw you, I felt you were very familiar. It felt like meeting one of my own kind."
By the end, Luo Lin appropriately revealed confusion and sadness.
Klein was stunned. He pressed his lips together and fell silent for a moment.
Several seconds later, Klein smiled again and proactively changed the subject. "So, does the matter of me calling you teacher still count?"
What he really meant was whether their teacher-student relationship still counted.
"Mm, I actually really want it to count. This is my first time being a teacher!" Luo Lin blinked, looking a little embarrassed and a little expectant.
Jokes aside, who would not want to be someone else's dad? Wasn't being a teacher another kind of dad?
Klein was not surprised by this result, though he could not help but smile. After thinking for a moment, he said, "Teacher, do you have any plans for my studies going forward?"
Luo Lin's eyes lit up. He gave a light cough, looking a little proud yet deliberately reserved. "How about you set aside one or two days a week to study here? Even though I'm only a newbie Beyonder, I know quite a lot. It should be enough to teach you, and it won't delay your work."
When Luo Lin mentioned his work, Klein's expression became subtly strange. He looked at Luo Lin and probed, "Do you know what kind of work I do?"
"I do. Aren't you a historical consultant at a security company?" Luo Lin looked at him with confusion. "You mentioned it last time." He acted as though he truly knew nothing.
Klein fell silent for several seconds. After considering it, he said, "Teacher, do you know about official Beyonders?"
Luo Lin nodded. "I do. The Nighthawks, Machinery Hivemind, and Punishers. I heard about them when I was in Backlund."
"What do you think of official Beyonders?" Klein continued.
"Probably a group of good people? But I heard the Punishers are very fierce. If they catch you, you'll be locked up until you die. The other two seem all right, though. As long as you don't commit crimes, even if they catch you, it seems you have a chance to turn over a new leaf."
Luo Lin showed a reminiscing expression, then looked puzzled. "Why did you suddenly bring them up? Don't tell me you offended official Beyonders?"
Hearing this answer, Klein first breathed a sigh of relief. Then he gave a light cough and said, "Is it possible that I am an official Beyonder?"
This was not something that needed to be hidden. There was nothing shameful about being an official Beyonder. Besides, Klein had some ideas. Luo Lin's personality was far too innocent, and he had no sense of crisis or confidentiality. If he were left unchecked, he might end up causing trouble with the official Beyonders one day. It would be better to find a way to get him an informant's identity. That way, even if he were caught in the future, he would not truly be locked behind the Charnis Gate.
"Huh?" Luo Lin revealed a shocked expression. He pointed at Klein and asked uncertainly, "You? An official Beyonder?"
"Strictly speaking, I'm a Nighthawk," Klein corrected.
Luo Lin's expression immediately became bewildered and complicated, like a squirrel whose pinecones had been stolen. After a long while, he glanced at Klein, visibly deflating as he said, "So you came to arrest me?"
"Why would you think that?" Klein shook his head, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. Then his expression turned serious. "I only came to ask whether you would be willing to become my informant. That way, even if the authorities discover you in the future, you won't be locked up."
"That's possible?" Luo Lin looked as though he had learned something new. Fully committing to the persona of a clear-eyed yet foolish college student, he nodded repeatedly. "Sure, sure. I have no problem with that."
"Alright. Then after some time, I'll sound out the captain. If things go smoothly, we should be able to make your informant status official," Klein said, nodding as well.
After all, he had only just joined the Nighthawks. If he wanted to develop an informant, it would be best to wait a few days.
