Background / History

Luo Lin originated in another world. When a clone of Nyarlathotep threatened his homeland, he summoned Yog-Sothoth through the connection between the Outer Gods. He witnessed the clone’s destruction and his world’s apparent restoration before losing consciousness and awakening in the Lord of Mysteries world. Nyarlathotep’s eliminated power had been sealed inside him and reshaped into the new Path of Chaos. 1

Initially, Luo Lin treated the new world much like a story or game: he intended to grow stronger, borrow powerful figures’ strength through favorability, and enjoy being a “pure Troublemaker.” His interactions with Klein and Medici eventually forced him to recognize that the people around him were not predetermined fictional characters. He began treating Klein as a genuine friend and sought a more meaningful connection to his new world. 1 104

During his Sequence 6 advancement, Luo Lin learned that he was not merely carrying a fragment of Nyarlathotep. He was himself one of Nyarlathotep’s avatars or a “little Nyarlathotep,” explaining his unusual compatibility with the Path of Chaos. He later recovered fragmented memories confirming that he had severed ties with Nyarlathotep’s main body. 151 328

Personality

Luo Lin is mischievous, theatrical, and highly adaptive. He enjoys constructing elaborate identities, teasing powerful beings, and turning serious situations into performances. His preferred methods are manipulation, emotional pressure, negotiated favors, and carefully staged deception rather than direct confrontation. 43 52 119

He is also calculating and self-aware. Even at Sequence 9, he understood that borrowed strength from Shadow of Time could not replace personal advancement, particularly in prolonged combat. He routinely plans around stronger opponents instead of assuming he can outwit them. 5 15

Luo Lin’s humanity is unstable and complicated by his Nyarlathotep nature. He admits to possessing little natural empathy and sometimes tempts or manipulates people simply to see their choices. However, he values connection, encourages others to develop an independent self, and increasingly acts to protect people and preserve his own humanity. 147 282 453

Shadow of Time

Luo Lin’s innate time-related ability summons a historical consciousness of an entity with whom he has sufficient favorability. The summoned shadow can merge with him, allowing him to borrow that entity’s power. 1
