Pallez, the shadow beside him, shook his head and said, "Why are you telling him all this? He's a blockhead and won't understand."
Pallez's attitude was clearly relaxed, showing no fear that Leonard would actually report him. After all, to be frank, Pallez had chosen Leonard, a Nighthawk, as a host with the intention of defecting to the Goddess of the Night if necessary, but he hadn't made up his mind yet.
So, if Leonard were to report him, Pallez would at most switch allegiances on the spot and become an angel under the Goddess of the Night. This wouldn't even be a bad thing for him.
"I actually think Leonard's mind is quite good. It's just that you, old man, often give him advice and act as his external brain, causing his brain to rust from disuse," Luo Lin quipped, delivering his classic mysterious joke.
"Then that's my fault," Pallez grumbled, glancing at Leonard. The latter clearly hadn't completely disbelieved them and was now sitting there looking dejected, lost in thought.
This made Pallez shake his head and sigh, though he had no intention of comforting him.
After all, Pallez knew that it was best for Leonard to figure these things out himself. If he were to foolishly become a fanatical follower of the Goddess of the Night, that would be truly disastrous.
Pallez then looked at Luo Lin and asked with a chuckle, "You know more secrets than I imagined. Did your deity tell you all this?"
"Of course not. While my Lord is merciful, He wouldn't act as my tutor. These were all told to me by senior Lucifer," Luo Lin replied, shaking his head.
"Lucifer?" Pallez's spirits immediately lifted upon hearing the unfamiliar name. He asked, "Is he also a believer of the Chief Sovereign of Chaos?"
"Senior Lucifer is a favored one of the Lord. However, if you want to inquire about more details, old man, I'm afraid I can't tell you much, as I don't know senior Lucifer too well myself. I can only say..."
Luo Lin paused, his expression a mixture of reverence and something unexplainable. "Senior Lucifer gives me a feeling very similar to Amon, but he is not Amon."
The conversation about Lucifer ended there. Pallez hadn't expected to hear that name again, especially from an old friend.
"It seems you do know Lucifer," Betrayal, who never missed Pallez's subtle changes in expression, stated with certainty.
"It's not exactly knowing him. I've only heard the name from a junior," Pallez admitted without concealment, shaking his head. "Lucifer follows the Chief Sovereign of Chaos and is His favored one."
"Chief Sovereign of Chaos?" Betrayal clearly hadn't heard this name before.
"His honorable name is..." Pallez paused. He clearly used some extraordinary ability to ensure his prayer wouldn't directly target the Chief Sovereign of Chaos before saying:
"Great Chief Sovereign of Chaos; You are the retrograde of time; You are the reflection of the world, the embodiment of joy."
"As for this Chief Sovereign of Chaos, I don't know much more. However..." Pallez looked at Mr. Door and tentatively said, "I spoke with one of His believers before. This individual seemed to want to promote the birth of the Lord of Mysteries. I asked who he favored, and that believer told me the Chief Sovereign of Chaos favors you."
This was, of course, a test. Pallez was genuinely curious how Betrayal Abraham, who had been corrupted by an Outer God and lost himself, had managed to recover.
Could the Chief Sovereign of Chaos eliminate the corruption of an Outer God?
Pallez's heart began to race at this thought, as, to his knowledge, only pillar-level existences could eliminate Outer God corruption.
But was that possible? A pillar that appeared out of nowhere?
Yet, something even more impossible had already happened before his eyes... Pallez scrutinized Mr. Door again, his mind racing with possibilities.
"Old friend, the way you're looking at me now makes me feel like some peculiar gemstone," Betrayal said, though he didn't know Pallez's exact thoughts, he could guess some of them. He didn't offer an explanation but hinted, "I don't know this Chief Sovereign of Chaos, but I suspect their authority might indeed be related to time."
Pallez blinked, instantly recalling the phrase "the retrograde of time" from the Chief Sovereign of Chaos's honorable name. This brought many thoughts to his mind, and his expression became increasingly strange.
Betrayal, however, seemed unwilling to continue the conversation. He glanced at the shadow Pallez and said, "I have another appointment. Let's end our chat here for today. See you next time, Pallez." With that, Mr. Door vanished as suddenly as he had appeared.
"Spatial abilities are so convenient. I wonder who he has an appointment with..." Pallez mused, a thoughtful glint in his eyes. The events of today were far too unexpected, even for the experienced Pallez to fully process.
After a long moment, Pallez let out a breath and looked at Leonard beside him. Leonard's senses had been blocked by Pallez earlier, and he was now sitting there in a daze, having heard none of their conversation.
This wasn't because Pallez feared Leonard learning secrets. It was purely because Pallez was worried that discussing Outer Gods with Mr. Door might corrupt Leonard. Thus, he had simply blocked the latter's senses, plunging him into a state akin to sleep.
With the sensory block now lifted, Leonard looked around confusedly and asked, "Old man, did someone just come by? I think I saw someone wearing something very shiny..."
"That was just you dreaming," Pallez casually replied, his mind drifting to Betrayal's gem-like appearance earlier. He chuckled and shook his head.
After all these years, his friend still loved gems so much. Not a bit had changed.
"Welcome back, Mr. Betrayal. You're quite punctual," Luo Lin said, not at all surprised to see Mr. Door appear on time. He closed his pocket watch and smiled.
Betrayal looked Luo Lin up and down, this man with black hair and golden eyes. After a moment, he said, "There's a very dangerous power within you."
Ordinary angels might not have noticed, but as the King of Angels who controlled the authority of seals, Betrayal could vaguely sense that something extremely dangerous was sealed within this man.
"I'm curious, what do I seem like in your eyes?" Luo Lin asked with great interest, a question he had long pondered.
"...Chaos, darkness, danger," Betrayal replied seriously after a few seconds of silence. "But I must say, your disguise is excellent. If I didn't possess authority related to seals, I probably would have just thought you were a mortal."
