Background and History
Origins and earlier history
Amon is the son of the Ancient Sun God and recognizes Adam as his brother, though Medici's revelation that Adam was not truly the True Creator's son deeply unsettles him 175 181. His childhood memories center on the ruins near Silver City and his time with the Ancient Sun God; following the Creator's split, he was raised without sufficient discipline and became increasingly lawless 127 186.
During the Fourth Epoch, Amon worked alongside Bethel and assisted Adam in helping Antigonus accommodate the Fool's Uniqueness. Their goal was partly to observe the Celestial Worthy's activity, and Antigonus's subsequent loss of control confirmed the danger of attempting godhood at that time 343.
After the Ancient Sun God's fall, Amon persecuted the Thief pathway, devouring most of its Beyonders and accumulating their characteristics. He also pursued the Lord of Mysteries position, while refusing the responsibility of saving the world that came with it 3.
Conflict with Luo Lin
Amon's first encounter with Luo Lin ends badly. He attempts to parasitize Luo Lin's soul with a Time Worm, only for the worm to be devoured by Nyarlathotep's power. Luo Lin then uses Amon as a medium to summon the conscious Shadow of Time of the Ancient Sun God 2.
Faced with Luo Lin's threat of mutual destruction and his father's presence, Amon abandons his clone by dispersing it into Time Worms. Luo Lin immediately informs the Ancient Sun God of Amon's actions after the God's fall 3.
Amon later enters the Land Abandoned by God despite sensing a trap, partly because he wishes to see his biological father again. He avoids approaching the Ancient Sun God directly, fearing his father's disappointment more than the surrounding conspiracies 170.
Appearance
Amon commonly appears as a black-haired, black-eyed man in a postman's uniform, distinguished by a crystal monocle 2.
- His monocle is so central to his identity that it is referred to as his “main body.” 367
- He can manifest through numerous clones and Time Worms rather than relying on a single human form. 279
- His clones can assume mundane occupations, including postman, waiter, and chef. 191
Personality
Amon is mischievous, deceptive, and highly adaptable. He treats theft, loopholes, and pranks as natural extensions of his Path, and once regarded beings such as Pallez and Antigonus as toys rather than equals 283 292. He believes the weak are destined to lose everything, a worldview reflected in his treatment of Antigonus and his pursuit of power 343.
Despite his composure, Amon is strongly attached to the Ancient Sun God. He is shaken by the prospect of his father's disappointment, tries to bargain with Luo Lin for a meeting with him, and later admits the depth of his feelings during their reunion 170 171 186.
After being defeated and drawn into the Troublemaker's Club, Amon begins confronting his lack of humanity. He realizes he has no hobbies independent of his Path and accepts Luo Lin's suggestion that he learn from Klein 175 283. He eventually comes to regard Klein as a respectable human and a good teacher, though he still considers him insufficiently ambitious 343.

Story Role and Major Arcs
Operation Beat Amon
Bethel, Medici, Uroboros, Pallez, and Luo Lin coordinate an ambush against Amon near Silver City. Amon breaks Bethel's spatial seal with his “bug” ability, but falls into a prepared trap and is weakened before being overwhelmed 171.
Luo Lin tells Amon that the Ancient Sun God knows of his past actions and intends to reclaim the characteristics Amon should not possess. The combined group beats Amon until he can barely maintain human form 172 174.
Rather than continue fighting, Amon accepts Luo Lin's invitation to join the Troublemaker's Club 175.
Learning Humanity
Luo Lin confronts Amon with the fact that he lacks interests outside theft, deception, and loopholes. Amon cannot name a favorite food, style, instrument, or story, forcing him to recognize how little of his identity exists apart from his Path 283.
Little Amon later travels with Little Klein toward the Five Seas to observe both the beautiful and ugly sides of human nature, hoping to become a complete person 387.
Mist Town and Antigonus
Amon accompanies Luo Lin to Mist Town, where he helps restrain the insane Antigonus so Luo Lin can attempt to awaken him 344. He later assists Antigonus with unusual politeness, explaining that he is doing so partly to please Luo Lin 351.
Lord of Mysteries Competition
Although Amon challenges Bethel for the Lord of Mysteries position, he changes the contest into a card game rather than initiating a physical battle. Bethel wins the game and subsequently advances without a divine war 486 487.
Amon accepts the result with relief, acknowledging that he cannot bear the responsibility of becoming the Lord of Mysteries even after developing greater humanity 474.
