"Who is it?" Audrey asked aloud, though she was certain the person outside her bedroom was Mr. Tower. No one else would knock at this hour.
"It's me, Miss Audrey... May I come in?" Abner's deep voice came from outside.
Audrey jumped. She hadn't expected him to answer so loudly. But more than ten seconds passed without a scolding from her servants or bodyguards, much less a bark from Susie. Mr. Tower must have done something to keep anyone else from noticing them.
