A very strange experiment? Abner opened the notebook and saw Abby's name on the flyleaf.
He remembered the woman. Before he left Bayam, Leon the Lion had specifically warned him how dangerous she was.
"I remember she was the daughter of a gang leader and the governor of Bayam's mistress..." Abner said as he kept leafing through the pages.
"That was only her false identity. Once you finish the diary, you'll see that she doesn't remember where she came from at all. The experiment cost her most of her memories." Klein paused, then added, "By the way, what I'm showing you is only a version I asked Mr. Fool to conjure. Reading the original notebook is extremely painful."
"Painful..." Abner frowned. "Even reading it here?"
"Even here," Klein confirmed.
He didn't explain why that remained true even with Mr. Fool watching over them. If pressed, he could always say it was a matter of Equivalent Exchange, and that the price was beyond their means.
That really is unusual. If it can interfere with Klein's senses Above the Gray Fog, it must be the power of an Angel at the very least, right?
As he pondered that, Abner began reading the diary in earnest.
Soon, words and phrases such as "experiment," "five survivors," "Bianca," "Lophia," and "Pale Admiral" caught his eye...
So Bianca had not been the only test subject in the experiment eleven years ago that had given her the ability to bring Misfortune upon her "master"...
Could Pale Admiral Maria also be a product of that experiment?
That would mean at least one God, the God of Knowledge and Wisdom, didn't know about it. Otherwise, He wouldn't have gone out of His way to arrange for the King of Immortality to probe Pale Admiral Maria.
