Dragon Pokémon roared across the mountains, each trying to drown out the others.
This was the main battlefield of the Dragon King Competition.
As the centerpiece of the Dragon Village Festival, it drew everyone who was physically able and had the time, young or old, male or female. Whether they could last to the end didn't matter. What mattered was taking part!
Thousands of Dragon Pokémon of every kind filled the canyon as far as the eye could see.
They had gathered of their own accord into distinct groups by species:
Hydreigon, Haxorus, Druddigon, Flygon, Altaria, and the rest.
In the games, Unova had barred most Pokémon from earlier generations, leaving the Black and White Pokédex with a conspicuous gap.
The anime wasn't quite that extreme, but plenty of people Ash met on his travels had never seen a Pikachu before.
And Pikachu were practically as common as—
Anyway, that gave some idea of the situation.
Dragon Village's Dragon Pokémon population was far less varied than Meteor Village's. Native species made up more than eighty percent of it.
Dragon Pokémon from other regions accounted for the remaining twenty percent.
Among the native species, Hydreigon were the fewest, numbering only a few hundred. They couldn't compare with the other groups, which each numbered over a thousand.
But with three heads apiece, perhaps one Hydreigon could count as three?
Well...
They could certainly shout three times as loudly.
"If Team Rocket saw this, they'd lose their minds with joy."
Baimu clicked his tongue in amazement.
He stood atop a cliff with many of Dragon Village's Dragon Tamers.
Amusingly, the Dragon Tamers had divided themselves into camps according to which Dragon Pokémon they supported most.
And because Baimu, an outsider, had brought a local dragon, he had somehow become a
