The sun set at dusk.
Ogerpon sat against a large boulder, holding the scroll in her hands as she remembered the past.
"Are you sure we should leave her alone?"
Porygon2 asked softly.
"Let her have some time to herself," Baimu said. "Some memories, good or bad, can only be revisited alone. No one else can truly understand them."
Even he often thought of his hometown in his previous life, of the people and events from those years, and of the place where he had lived for decades.
People said memories faded with time, but some remained etched deep in his heart. All he had to do was brush away the dust and revisit them to feel that old longing and reluctance to let go.
"Mm..."
Porygon2 neither agreed nor disagreed.
It might actually have been younger than even Hydreigon. Not long after Dr. Akihabara created it, he had given it to Baimu as a prize for answering questions.
Every happy memory it had involved its Trainer, so naturally, it couldn't understand how Ogerpon felt.
Of course, even a Toy Duck had its troubles. Sometimes it wanted to be alone, too.
Thinking of it that way, Porygon2 felt better.
Adaman arranged for Baimu to stay in an empty, cone-shaped earthen house.
"I'll bring you some bedding in a bit. Let me light the fire first. Crimson Mirelands might look warm with all that red, but it gets pretty cold at night."
Adaman lit the hearth in the corner. Its warm glow filled the room, lending it a cozy air.
Baimu thanked him softly, then let out some of his Pokémon.
The earthen house grew lively at once.
Blissey looked around the bare interior and enlisted Shiny Gengar's help with the furnishings.
It didn't know how many days they would stay,
