Deino's chance to evolve was clearly easier to figure out than Aggron's.
Both involved battling.
But unlike Aggron, who had evolved to defeat his enemies more effectively, Deino would likely see evolution as a reward. Their personalities were simply too different.
At first, Baimu hadn't known how to guide him. Then, watching Caiyu battle with Altaria, inspiration struck.
What if victory was the push Deino needed?
So, to make sure he could defeat Altaria, Baimu had deliberately ordered Ice Fang to create an opening after Dragon Pulse failed to bring her down. That gave Deino the chance to finish her in one blow.
With Hustle behind it, Dragon Rush had proved ferocious. Deino had even turned Altaria's own Dragon Pulse against her and knocked her flat.
And after tasting victory, an exhilarated Deino had evolved, just as Baimu had hoped.
He had won.
And then he had grown stronger!
Deino's straightforward way of thinking had earned him a new form—
Zweilous.
The moment Vivian announced the result, Baimu rushed over and wrapped his arms around both of Zweilous's heads without hesitation.
"Heyoo..." "Heyoo..."
The two soft cries came in unison. Zweilous was relaxed, clearly reassured by his trainer's scent.
"Get some rest. Thanks for all your effort." Baimu recalled him into his Poké Ball.
Deino's evolution would bring challenges unlike those of other Pokémon, but there was no time to deal with them now. For the moment, Zweilous could rest in his Poké Ball.
Baimu could think about everything else after the Pokémon Contest.
That was the best approach.
Back in the waiting room, Dawn spoke with lingering nerves. "I almost thought you were going to lose! Altaria's Cotton Guard was incredible! I can't believe Deino turned it around at the last second—and evolved, too!"
"Pip-pip!"
Piplup was especially shocked
