The billowing smoke did not last long.
Both Pokémon pulled back to put some distance between them.
The gusts they stirred up quickly swept the smoke away, revealing a battlefield in ruins.
To Baimu's surprise, Garchomp had neither Levitate nor the Flying type, yet somehow hovered in midair on its broad shark fins.
It and Hydreigon glared at each other, both aware of the other's strength after their brief clash.
"Dragon Pulse!"
"Raaagh!"
Hydreigon drew a sharp breath. Three-colored dragon flames surged from its three mouths, merging in an instant into a fierce, clawing energy dragon that roared toward Garchomp!
Though Hydreigon had used no boosting move, the force of its Dragon Pulse grew with its momentum. The energy dragon looked more lifelike by the second—and more terrifying!
Zhen Ya shouted, "Meet it with Dragon Claw!"
"Graaah!"
Garchomp swung its massive fins, now wrapped in bright green light. Air currents swept around it as it shot forward like a great bird, its fins slashing at the energy dragon like twin blades!
In an instant, Garchomp sliced the energy dragon into pieces again. It exploded with a roar!
Boom!
Firelight and dust engulfed Garchomp.
Before Hydreigon could react, Garchomp burst through the haze with a long howl, its glowing green fins sharp as blades!
"Graaah!"
"Dragon Breath!"
At Baimu's quick command, Hydreigon's three heads swung about, firing sky-blue waves of dragon flame at Garchomp like beam cannons.
At close range, it was the fastest move Hydreigon had, and it carried a chance of paralyzing Garchomp.
Ground-type Pokémon could be paralyzed. Electric-type moves simply had no effect on them, so those moves' secondary effects could not take hold either.
That meant Glare, Dragon Breath, and Stun Spore could all work on Garchomp—
If they hit.
The two dragons tangled in the sky.
