Background / History

Hydreigon was born in Dragon Village, where Elder Iris helped hatch him. He later left the village with Baimu while still a Deino; the Dragon Tamers rescued and raised the Deino that remained behind. Although he initially had no conscious memory of his birthplace, its scent stirred an instinctive reaction when he returned years later. Reuniting with his former companions, now Zweilous, gave him a new understanding of home and belonging. 1142 1143

He evolved from Zweilous after pushing his mind and energy beyond their limits. The transformation merged his former two heads into one true head, created the two mouth-like heads on his forelimbs, and gave him six wings. His immediate need to adjust to having only one field of vision caused anxiety and several accidents, including repeatedly putting Baimu's hand—and later Baimu's head—in his mouth. 359 360 361

Baimu deliberately sent him to Dragon's Den to socialize and develop independence. There, Hydreigon ignored the local hierarchy, defeated three Salamence, won ten consecutive battles, and became the strongest young dragon in the den. Despite this reputation, he remained emotionally attached to Baimu and fled to him when female dragons tried to court him. 378 379

His return to Dragon Village culminated in the Dragon King Competition. After clearing groups of Haxorus and other dragons through speed, aerial control, and improvised grappling, he defeated Iris's Haxorus by carrying it above the range of Dragon Village's blessing and driving it into the canyon like a meteor. Appearance

Hydreigon is an unusually large, black-furred dragon Pokémon measuring roughly 210 centimeters—well above the Pokédex average of 180 centimeters. His intimidating silhouette and scarlet eyes contrast with his frequently bewildered or childish expressions. 360 361

Personality

Hydreigon is intensely affectionate toward Baimu. He seeks physical reassurance, hides behind Baimu when overwhelmed by Iris's attention, and calms quickly when he recognizes Baimu's scent. He is also fiercely protective, immediately repelling Pokémon he believes threaten his Trainer. 360 395 1271

His affection exists alongside enormous pride. Hydreigon wants to be Baimu's ace, resents Aggron's position as the established trump card, and constantly compares his strength to teammates such as Aggron, Mawile, and Steelix. His ambition sometimes becomes childish bullying—particularly toward Galarian Corsola—or loud boasting after becoming Dragon King. 386 630 949 1155

In battle, he is far more calculating than his usual behavior suggests. He studies opponents, uses Protect when danger becomes apparent, exploits positioning and terrain, and can continue an attack without Baimu's direct commands.
