In truth, his ability had only ever worked on Lugia, so Baimu had no idea whether he could use it successfully now. All he could do was try his best.
He recalled that his mental connection with Orre's Lugia had rested on a little pity for it, fondness for its appearances in the movies, a desire to save it, and a longing to see it return to Orre.
All those feelings had one thing in common—
They held no malice toward Orre's Lugia, nor any selfish, sordid desire. They were pure and unclouded.
If he wanted to recreate that connection, he believed he needed to set his view of Rayquaza straight and clarify his purpose.
Why did he want to connect with it?
Just as Rayquaza was curious about him, he was curious about it. He wanted to know where it usually lived, how much power it possessed, what it did from day to day, and so much more...
Then there was admiration.
He admired Rayquaza's strength and how cool it looked. How did charcoal black and gold go together so well? And its Mega Evolution in the movie had been spectacular.
Finally, there was goodwill.
He wouldn't ask to catch Rayquaza. Nor did he want a Pokémon this free to be constrained by his circumstances like Steelix, forced to
