Psychic power traveled along the thread, seizing Beautifly with swift precision.
"Beee—"
Wrapped in blue light, Beautifly cried out, only to realize halfway through that Blissey wasn't crushing its body. She was merely holding it in place and rapidly reeling in the thread.
"Happy~ Happy~"
Blissey looked like a fisherman who had netted a big one. Chanting happily, she hauled Beautifly toward her.
Normally, Psychic required Blissey to lock on to her target.
But the silk gave her psychic power a medium to follow, sparing her the targeting process she found so difficult.
"Beautifly!"
May cried out. Just as she'd expected, Blissey's reactions were absurdly fast, whether she was attacking or countering an opponent's move.
May hadn't even had time to tell Beautifly to cut the thread.
"Put it in the water, then use Sing."
Baimu gave May no more time to think. Keeping to Blissey's "healing warrior" persona from the Pokémon Contest, he prepared to have her sing Beautifly a sacred lullaby.
Once Beautifly's wings were wet, it would lose nearly half its fighting ability.
Add Sing to that,
and the outcome would be all but settled.
In a Contest Battle, getting hit by a Status Move cost points. The rules could hardly have been kinder to a contestant like Blissey.
"Happy~"
Blue light shone in Blissey's eyes as she kept Beautifly firmly under control and tried to sink it into the water.
But
the instant Beautifly's wings touched the surface—
"Don't let her do it! Fight back with Psychic!"
May shouted.
Beautifly suddenly unleashed a powerful resistance. Its eyes flashed blue, and its psychic power slammed against Blissey's!
Two Pokémon that weren't Psychic types were battling with Psychic-type moves. It looked a little ridiculous.
Strangely enough, Blissey was nearly losing control.
If she'd lost to a Psychic-type Pokémon
