"That last big gamble paid off for the Gambler."
Baimu thought back over the simulation.
The "coincidence" that had carried the Gambler from the top sixteen to the top eight was one thing. His fortunes had truly turned when he asked the Vermilion Gym Leader for help.
Back in the Gambler's day, were Gym Leaders considered trustworthy?
Baimu had no idea.
The Gambler probably hadn't known whether the Vermilion Gym Leader would risk offending Team Rocket to help him and his grandson, either.
But faced with an organization as powerful as Team Rocket, the Gambler had no choice. He could only trust the one person willing to lend a hand.
Thankfully, that person had rescued his grandson and found them a way forward.
Unova was a distant land beyond Team Rocket's reach.
Then came the second big gamble.
The Gambler had staked his life on taking down the Team Rocket member who had destroyed his family and his life, then shamelessly tried to use him.
He had won that gamble, too.
Poliwhirl had evolved into Poliwrath, broken through the shell of the car sinking to the seabed, and pulled the unconscious Gambler to safety.
It was a happy enough ending.
"Too bad the rewards aren't much."
Baimu stared at the four rewards on offer, torn.
He was definitely taking the level reward. Of the other three, Fissure was decent, but none of the Pokémon on his team could learn it. It might sit unused just like String Shot had.
But the Pokémon clue...
He glanced at the Pokémon clues piling up in the Simulator, then silently chose Fissure.
Fissure might come in handy someday. Even if he never used it himself, he could pass it on to friends or family. A Pokémon clue, on the other hand, would become useless
