"Geh-heh-heh—"
Shiny Gengar looked up at Weavile as it leaped into the air and cackled triumphantly.
As a shadow Pokémon, one of its special abilities was slipping freely into shadows. When shadows connected, it could travel through them at high speed.
Weavile's reactions and speed were impressive. Even a sneak attack had failed.
But as its trainer had said, what was a Pokémon that couldn't fly doing jumping so high? It might as well be a sitting duck.
"Confuse Ray!"
At Baimu's command, Gengar's eyes lit up with warped, chaotic light. Anyone who glanced at them would grow dizzy and lose their bearings.
"Close your eyes! Blizzard!" Wally shouted desperately.
"Weav!"
Weavile squeezed its eyes shut in midair and unleashed a raging blizzard from its mouth.
As two bolts of chaotic color shot toward it from Gengar, the blizzard created enough thrust to push it aside. It narrowly avoided Confuse Ray's beams and drifted toward the far side of the field.
Gengar, dodging the blizzard, stared in shock.
What?
It could move through the air like that?!
Its trainer's voice snapped it out of its daze. "Get into the shadows! Don't give it an opening!"
"Geng!"
Gengar hurried into the shade of the trees.
Weavile landed beside Baimu, shot him a glance, then sprinted toward the shaded area.
It had pulled off that quick aerial maneuver only because it was light enough and its blizzard produced enough wind.
Sheer power had done the trick.
What truly surprised Baimu, though, was how efficiently Weavile had responded to Wally's command.
If it had only recently been caught, Weavile could not have unleashed Blizzard so quickly. The bond between Pokémon and trainer often showed in the Pokémon knowing which move to use the instant its trainer opened his mouth.
