Gym Trainers.
They were the people who battled players inside a Pokémon Gym before they could formally challenge the Gym Leader in the games.
The anime had no such rule, so Gym Trainers were mostly relatives, students, or followers of the Gym Leader who trained their Pokémon under the leader's guidance.
But.
Rather than showing the Hex Maniac receiving all-around instruction from Fantina, the simulation mostly showed her exercising alongside Haunter.
[You often watched Fantina battle others with envy, but you knew you had started farther behind than everyone else. Rather than rushing into battles, building up your strength had to come first.]
The Hex Maniac was also strictly forbidden from leaving her body. The narration said Fantina had reminded her again and again that a moment's pleasure would do her more harm than good.
The Hex Maniac obediently stopped leaving her body, but...
Fantina had only said she couldn't leave her body. She hadn't said she couldn't sneak out in the flesh to have fun.
And so.
With her attachment to the night, the Hex Maniac often enlisted Haunter's help to slip away to Amity Square and play with the Pokémon she had known before.
Being in her body made things harder. A few times, she had nearly been caught by patrolling police officers or Amity Square security guards. Even so, nothing could curb her longing to be free.
"Call of the Night?"
On the screen, the Hex Maniac moved through nighttime streets beneath neon lights of every color. It really did have a touch of Call of the Night about it.
But Baimu soon found himself remembering his previous life.
Back in middle school, he, too, had slipped out with friends in the middle of the night to go online, wander night markets, and fish after dark. Images
