But the news wasn't all good. There was a downside.

The Ordo Malleus, Ordo Hereticus, and Ordo Xenos had all received the battle report.

What did they mean, the Ultramarines had faced invasions by both Tyranids and daemons? What did they mean, they had wiped out the entire Hive Fleet and daemon army with fewer than fifty casualties of their own?
The three orders had jointly sent the Chapter a formal letter. In essence, they demanded that Lin En be sent to Terra to undergo the trial for Living Saints. If he passed, they would consider granting him the title.
Calgar asked Lin En solemnly, "If you pass the trial, the Inquisition will officially name you a Living Saint. Your name will be entered into the Imperial Scriptures, and the faithful of the Ecclesiarchy will worship you. Priest Lin En, do you want to go?"
Lin En gave a wry smile. "Chapter Master Calgar, do you think I want to?"
Seeing his expression, Calgar nodded in understanding. "Very well. I understand."
Fair enough.
The Inquisition's trial for Living Saints was no mere formality.
They called it a trial, but it was really torture. It was a miracle any Living Saint came out of it without turning against the Imperium.
Those lunatics tried every way they could think of to kill Living Saints. To them, anyone they couldn't kill was a Living Saint, and anyone they could kill wasn't.

The Inquisition had always had dubious intentions, too. It was forever looking for Living Saints to monitor and re-search—dis-sect.
