Background / History

Lin En came from the ancient 2K era and died suddenly after staying up gaming. The system brought him into the Warhammer universe because of his reckless willingness to fight for humanity and potentially create a better future for the setting. 82

He initially survived through evasion rather than combat. Pursued by Chaos Cultists, he used narrow cave passages, his smaller build, quick thinking, and eventually Thirty Days to remain alive. He later discovered an Imperial corridor and escaped the underground region. 5 18

Lin En met Battle Sister Cecilia and Adeptus Mechanicus tech-priest Iron Hammer while stranded on Istvaan III. Although all three were initially suspicious of one another, Lin En shared food with Cecilia and gradually became her ally. Cecilia promised not to abandon him, while Lin En revealed his regenerative ability and helped the group survive. 9 11 12 14 16

After witnessing Tyrennius’s death, Lin En suffered his first direct psychological shock from watching a companion die. Cecilia restrained him and ordered him to run, forcing him to confront the brutality of the setting. 50

Lin En later joined the Baal Guard with Cecilia and Iron Hammer. Because he could not properly write in High or Low Gothic, he asked Cecilia to complete his enlistment form. He registered only Danger Sense and Tactical Rehearsal, hiding his more dangerous abilities from Imperial authorities. 58 59

On Mezoa, Lin En was appointed the regiment’s sole psyker and given the prestigious but largely symbolic title of Chief Psyker or Chief Librarian. During the offensive against the Greenskins, he used Tactical Rehearsal and Ballistic Calculation to seize command of the 0825th Regiment and direct highly accurate artillery strikes. 63 64 69 70

His support abilities transformed the battle. Emperor’s Gaze empowered Cecilia and other soldiers, while Group Healing and later mass buffs allowed Imperial forces to overwhelm the Orks with minimal casualties. The soldiers interpreted his powers as direct blessings from the Emperor. 69 71

The Inquisition investigated Lin En after the Pollia battle. Its agents found that soldiers exposed to his Golden Light were healthy, mentally sound, healed of wounds, and free of Chaos taint. The investigation shifted from suspicion toward the possibility that Lin En was a genuine Living Saint. 80

The Ultramarines then transferred Lin En to Macragge, where his role changed from mortal Guard psyker to Ultramarines Chaplain. His healing, morale enhancement, and battlefield blessings were judged more useful to the Chaplaincy than to the Librarius or Apothecarion. 83 98 99

Lin En became closely attached to the Ultramarines’ Third Company. After the Battle of Prandium, all ten companies competed to recruit him, while Third Company insisted that he belonged with them. He ultimately retained his permanent posting there while receiving additional honors as a defender and advisor. 151 152 158 159

The Emperor later summoned Lin En to Terra. During their private meeting, Lin En acquired Psychic Paradox, making him immune to psychic attacks while preserving his own psychic abilities. He then began using the Emperor’s psychic excess as a source of power. 183 203 204

Lin En rejected the Emperor’s suggestion that he remain safely on Terra and passively accumulate rewards. Instead, he chose to continue participating in major events, believing that the system’s strongest rewards required genuine danger and meaningful story progression. 205

He accepted authority over troubled Chapters, beginning with the Lamenters, then later taking administrative control of the Mantis Warriors. Lin En argued that Chapters deceived into rebellion should be rehabilitated rather than destroyed if they remained loyal to the Emperor. 205 222 231 236

During the Bolomite campaign, Lin En supported the Lamenters and allied forces against Chaos, then used his psychic reserves to pull the entire forge world out of Tzeentch’s domain and return it to Imperial space. 247 259

Lin En later reunited with Cecilia and Iron Hammer on Asphodex. He transferred them into his own sphere of command, placing Cecilia with the Lamenters and Iron Hammer as Fabricator-General of Bolomite. 287 301

While traveling toward Cretacia, Lin En was trapped in an enormous illusion. He destroyed it by unleashing all 240 points of his psychic power into a Psychic Storm, but emerged drifting in the vacuum of space. His Power Armor preserved his life until Phoros and the fleet rescued him. 301 306 307

Appearance

Lin En is a youthful, physically unimposing human who initially appears smaller and weaker than the soldiers and superhuman warriors around him. He has fair, clean skin, neatly trimmed nails, and no signs of long-term manual labor. 5 12

  • Appears younger than the people around him and is stated to be not yet nineteen. 314
  • Initially wears Astra Militarum equipment and later black-and-gold Chaplain Power Armor. 5 99
  • His Power Armor is a lightweight model adapted for mortal use. 99
  • The Eye of True Sight leaves a faint golden light deep within his pupils. 148
  • Often carries the Scepter of Truth and a mortal-compatible bolt weapon. 99
  • Wears small, round sunglasses given to him by Cecilia, which he uses to project an exaggeratedly dignified appearance. 287

Personality

Lin En is humorous, argumentative, and prone to treating terrifying situations with irreverent commentary. He frequently quarrels with the system over card draws, ability descriptions, and withheld rewards, yet depends on it as his most reliable companion.

He is initially frightened and physically vulnerable, but adapts quickly. Rather than rejecting unwanted support abilities, he learns to recognize their strategic value. Danger Sense, Tactical Rehearsal, Ballistic Calculation, and Group Healing all become decisive because he applies them creatively.

Lin En is deeply protective of companions and ordinary soldiers. He chooses to remain with the Guard to protect Cecilia rather than immediately join the Adeptus Astartes, and he repeatedly risks himself to reduce casualties. 28 64 68 76

Despite his growing political power, Lin En remains uncomfortable with praise and insists that saving lives is simply his duty. 151

He is also increasingly ambitious. Lin En seeks authority not solely for status, but so he can shield his allies from the Inquisition and reform institutions he considers corrupt. 60 85 301

Abilities & Skills

Trait-Drawing System

Lin En possesses a system that grants traits through periodic card draws and achievement rewards.

  • Regular draws become available after a fifteen-day cooldown. 64 94 246
  • Major achievements can grant additional draws, sometimes guaranteeing gold rarity or higher. 65 66 203 312
  • The system can register story nodes and kill achievements.
  • Lin En believes the system’s strongest rewards appear when he actively participates in dangerous events rather than remaining in safety. 205
  • The system has a sarcastic, evasive personality and repeatedly withholds or delays rewards before conceding them. 33 64 66

Tactical Analysis

Lin En’s strategic abilities allow him to command forces far beyond his formal experience.

  • Tactical Rehearsal simulates the battlefield and predicts enemy actions. 33
  • Ballistic Calculation predicts projectile trajectories and impact points. 64
  • Together, the abilities allow Lin En to:
    • Direct artillery without hitting allied troops.
    • Detect flanking attacks and enemy traps.
    • Predict feints, retreats, and ambushes.
    • Coordinate large formations in real time. 69 70
  • His supernatural analysis compensates for his limited formal military training. 33 69

Emperor’s Gaze

Emperor’s Gaze is a gold-grade single-target aura that affects loyalists and traitors differently.

  • Grants a loyalist a 100% increase to all attributes for thirty minutes.
  • Suppresses a traitor’s attributes by 100% for thirty minutes.
  • Can empower soldiers, Astartes, and Primarchs.
  • Turned Cecilia into a dominant frontline fighter and greatly amplified the Lion King against Magnus. 66 69 257
  • Can be fused with Group Healing to distribute its effects across a large group. 76

Group Healing

Group Healing is Lin En’s principal mass-support ability.

  • Heals wounds and restores stamina.
  • Strengthens wills damaged by exhaustion or Chaos influence.
  • Can cover formations and eventually battlefields several kilometers wide. 107 132
  • Can serve as a platform for fusing other traits.
  • When combined with Emperor’s Gaze and Psychic Paradox, it can grant large groups both physical enhancement and psychic immunity. 76 253

Purification and Holy Light

Lin En’s Holy Light abilities counter Chaos corruption.

  • Purification Aura removes Chaos Corruption from others, with success affected by the difference in strength between Lin En and the target. 65
  • Weapon Enchantment gives weapons golden Holy Light and greatly increases their damage against daemons. 43 132
  • His empowered weapons can erase daemons permanently rather than merely banishing them to the Warp. 133
  • He can purify Chaos Spawn and restore corrupted flesh to a human form. 43
  • Purifying powerful figures may attract the attention of the Chaos Gods. 65

Psychic Defense and Absorption

Lin En’s psychic abilities make him an exceptional counter to Warp-based enemies.

  • Psychic Paradox nullifies psychic attacks while allowing Lin En to use psychic powers himself. 203
  • Psychic Absorption converts 30% of incoming psychic attacks into usable psychic energy. 204 214
  • Psychic Paradox protects him from the soul damage that would otherwise result from excessive psychic absorption. 204
  • He has absorbed psychic attacks from Drukhari and endured massive assaults from Magnus and Tzeentchian sorcerers. 214 253
  • His psychic reserves reached approximately 80 before being limited by his Psychic Pool. 204

Eye of True Sight

Eye of True Sight is a permanent passive ability.

  • Sees through disguises and illusions.
  • Detects possession and soul-level Chaos corruption.
  • Can expose hidden traitors even when they do not appear hostile.
  • Complements Danger Sense and Purification Aura by covering deception, hostility, and corruption as separate threats. 147 148
  • Its stated effect has no upper limit based on the target’s power. 147

Machine Spirit Resonance

Machine Spirit Resonance allows Lin En to awaken and control machine intelligence.

  • Can operate ships without human crews.
  • Enables vehicles to maneuver with the precision of veteran pilots.
  • Controlled vessels can ram enemies, evade fire, and self-destruct tactically. 94 104
  • Initially controls up to 100 ships.
  • After Lin En sacrifices Immortal Body, the limit increases to 200 ships. 104
  • Its effects resemble a limited form of Abominable Intelligence.

Matter Reassembly

Matter Reassembly allows Lin En to generate or reconstruct matter.

  • Changes matter’s physical and chemical form.
  • Requires one to six hours of uninterrupted casting.
  • Cannot be used during combat. 82
  • Lin En later experiments with creating biological matter by mentally arranging cells and their components. 286
  • He considers using it to restore Cecilia’s mutated eyes but withholds the attempt because revealing the ability would make both of them targets. 85

Dimensional Slash

Dimensional Slash is Lin En’s direct combat technique.

  • Cuts through dimensional or physical obstructions.
  • Failed against an illusion with no genuine space to cut. 306
  • Later allows him to open a collapsed mine entrance and rescue tens of thousands of civilians. 332

Psychic Overload and Immortal Will

These traits provide Lin En with emergency protection and temporary escalation.

  • Psychic Overload raises his psychic power by one full tier for thirty seconds once per day. 312
  • Immortal Will protects his resolve against mental and spiritual attacks for thirty minutes, including Tzeentch’s influence. 253
