The Drukhari were a branch of the Aeldari, a bunch of lunatics headquartered in Commorragh who fed on the pain and despair of other living beings.
When Slaanesh was born, it devoured more than half of the Aeldari souls in a single breath.
The Drukhari remained in their home, Commorragh, and fled into the Webway with the entire city, narrowly escaping disaster.
However, although they escaped Slaanesh's elbow strike, the Drukhari who survived the ordeal were left with soul wounds that would last for all eternity. Their vitality would constantly drain away, and once it was completely gone, their souls would be devoured by Slaanesh forever.
The Drukhari then discovered that by torturing other species and absorbing the pain and despair they emitted, they could slow the loss of their vitality.
You could all guess what happened next.
They were sinister beyond belief.
From then on, the Drukhari became a separate branch of the Aeldari, belonging to the villainous side and specializing in raiding and torturing other species, including the Craftworld Aeldari.
The Craftworld Aeldari also regarded them as a disgrace to their race and mortal enemies. In any case, the dark space elves were pretty infamous in Warhammer 40,000.
The Drukhari were also absolute enemies of the Imperium, because they often raided humans and brought them back to Commorragh for torture.
The Imperium certainly could not tolerate such behavior. The High Lords Council had issued an order: whenever any Imperial combat unit encountered a Drukhari vessel, it could open fire directly without seeking authorization.
