Four giant warships raced toward the void outside the Hades System.
In the original storyline, Leviathan's Tyranid swarm first struck Vitellia, the outermost planet of the Hades System, and the outer barrier of Baal.
The Leviathan Hive Fleet invaded from beneath the galactic plane, while the Blood Angels knew nothing of the swarm's arrival.
Baal had a sparse population, and Vitellia, the outermost colonial world of the Hades System, was poorly defended. Faced with the overwhelming swarm, it sent out a distress signal before quickly going silent, marking the beginning of the Battle of Baal's Destruction.
Inside Vitellia, the other planets of the Hades System, the Imperial Guard, Storm Troopers, local defenders, and Sisters of Battle fought to the death.
But their forces were desperately insufficient. The system's defenses rapidly collapsed, and the major planets were swiftly devoured by the Tyranids.
Dante quickly led the main force of the Blood Angels to the Hades System's aid, but the Tyranids were too fast. By the time they arrived, most of the worlds had already fallen, leaving them only able to rescue the surviving survivors and kill as many of the swarm as possible.
Because the Tyranids had launched a surprise attack, the Blood Angels' successor Chapters had known nothing beforehand. They could not arrive in time after receiving the emergency message and could only race there with all their might.
Dante led the Blood Angels' parent Chapter in struggling to hold out in the Hades System.
On the battlefield, they unexpectedly encountered the Necrons of the Mephrit Dynasty, who had been living in seclusion on one of the barren planets.
The Necrons hated the bugs as well. Humanity and the Necrons formed a brief alliance here, detonated the star, and turned the Hades System into a shattered void and poisoned wasteland.
