In the Red Fortress's garrison commander's office, Cyrabelle looked stunned. "What? James was killed by his son!"
Cyrabelle knew about the bitter feud between James and Modi, but she had never imagined Modi could kill General James.
Cyrabelle knew better than anyone what Modi was capable of. As General James's only adult son, if Modi had shown even a little ability and ambition, she would long since have placed him in the army or the Anomalies Bureau.
But General James's son was hopeless. He lacked ability and good sense, and had even let the Revolutionary Army brainwash him. He openly sympathized with them and the native residents. Cyrabelle could hardly bring someone like that into the army to make trouble for herself.
Yet according to the surviving officers of the escort convoy, Modi had displayed strength that utterly overwhelmed General James. Worse, the power he used had looked remarkably like a Divine Art of the Holy Light Church—the Sword of Divine Judgment!
One officer had also mentioned that General James repeatedly said Modi was "possessed by an evil spirit."
Cyrabelle's heart sank. She grew more certain that a powerful evil spirit originating from the Holy Light Church had seized Modi's body.
"All right. You may leave." After hearing the report, Cyrabelle dismissed everyone else from the office with an impassive wave, then sat down, exhausted in body and mind.
