Background and History

Modi was raised in comfort as the son of General James, yet sympathized with people suffering under the Lorenzo Kingdom. He also feared that his political actions could endanger his younger siblings. After his mother was killed during a Revolutionary Army hostage incident, a mysterious voice began offering him power; he initially refused, believing he could achieve his ideals without it 312 355 380.

He joined the revolutionary cause but distrusted both Lorenzo’s rulers and the Rune Federation’s influence over the Revolutionary Army. James had secretly protected him after Modi killed a captain who had murdered a native girl. Their relationship broke openly when James told him to leave and face the consequences of his choices without his father’s protection 327 329.

The deaths of Delstad and other comrades convinced Modi that conviction alone could not protect them. He accepted the voice’s offer of Holy Light power, unaware that Archbishop Ye Lijin intended to take his body. After Modi attacked James, Ye Lijin seized control and killed him. Modi’s remorse strengthened his soul instead of extinguishing it, causing their souls to fuse 355 380 381.

The fusion broadened Modi’s aim: he came to believe that replacing Lorenzo’s rulers would leave the structures of oppression intact. He pursued power beyond that Void World, surviving the apparent death of his aged body and later using a mass sacrifice to revive the Sea God as bait for the Holy Light Church 411 423 508 513.

After a near-fatal fight with Green, Modi bonded with the Revolutionary Flame. He used Revolutionary Seeds to foster uprisings across worlds, but the oppression that followed one successful revolution led him to argue that revolutionaries must continue pursuing equality after victory.
