Green glanced at Officer Jessica in surprise. He had expected the dashing policewoman to take charge of the case, not follow procedure and hand it over to the Rune Federation's Anomalies Bureau.

Green could understand the decision.

Jessica had also filed a report stating that the disappearance of Officer Niant from her department was likely no ordinary matter and might be connected to the warehouse case. She had asked the Anomalies Bureau to take over both. To Green, it looked like she was passing the buck. Apparently, she and the missing Niant weren't particularly close, and she had been reluctant to come all the way out here to investigate. The moment something unexpected happened, she had tried to hand it off to the Anomalies Bureau.

With that thought, Green gave Jessica a meaningful look.

Jessica happened to look his way at the same moment. Their eyes met, and both froze before exchanging awkward smiles for no apparent reason.

Though Jessica had filed her report, she and her team still had to wait for the Anomalies Bureau to arrive and take over. Green stayed too. He had a hunch that the strange events at the warehouse were somehow connected to the sudden severing of his Soul Link with Niderland. He secretly sent several Ravens to scout the place where Niderland had last appeared, while he remained in town to wait for the Anomalies Bureau. He planned to join them as a Silver Rank mercenary.

Green had made that decision after seeing the equipment Shura, the bespectacled woman, carried. If Jessica's team had gear like that, the Anomalies Bureau would surely have even more. At the very least, they would have a better source of information than he did alone.

But just a few hours later, something Green had never expected happened.
