Even Green had not expected the Sea God's daughter to cooperate so readily. She had volunteered secrets she had no need to reveal, including how the Sea God had fallen, as disclosed in murmurs from a dream...
Green, who had thought this would be difficult, was caught off guard.
Clearly, the Sea God on the verge of awakening had miscalculated. She had underestimated the will to survive of a chess piece that had leaped off the board. If anyone in the world wanted the Sea God to sleep forever, her daughter Pradas would be first in line.
Just as Pradas was about to finish, Green's expression shifted. He looked into the distance and signaled for her to stop.
Almost at the same time, Pradas's expression changed too. After a moment's hesitation, she warned him, "I can feel them. The Sea God Guard is here!"
Green looked back at her. He said nothing, but it was clear he wanted an explanation.
"I've never seen the Sea God Guard either," Pradas said, "but they've appeared in my dreams. They're all living extraordinary creatures favored by the Sea God, and some are incredibly powerful. When the Nature Hermitage kidnapped me, I sent out a distress signal. I never thought they'd actually come."
Green finally understood why the Sea God Guard had appeared so suddenly.
Though the Sea God had fallen long ago, many of the Sea God Guards had survived, hidden deep beneath the sea and blessed with lifespans so long they were nearly endless. They lurked ten thousand meters down, where sunlight never reached, awaiting the Sea God's summons each day so they could race across the boundless ocean once more.
"Holly, I'll leave this to you. There should be two of them—" Before Green could finish, towering waves rose in the
