But to Green and the Glasses Woman's surprise, McCain, a renowned intelligence broker, was remarkably weak himself. He was only at Mid Formal Rank, far weaker than his daughter.
That also showed how cunning and adept at dealing with people he was. Without strength of his own, making a name for himself in the intelligence trade was incredibly difficult. Plenty of people in that business ignored the rules, and when they did, fists usually settled the matter.
Green certainly did not believe McCain could talk every unreasonable brute around. He likely had some hidden force behind him, or a powerful backer.
This time, though, McCain had gone into hiding. Clearly, his backer could no longer protect him.
"Mr. Takrama, Miss Jeanette, I can roughly guess why you've come to see me." As he spoke, he gave the Glasses Woman a long look. As an intelligence broker, he knew exactly who stood before him: a Demon Warlock who killed without blinking and a traitor to the Holy Light Church. Both were dangerous people. If he failed to satisfy them, he was unlikely to survive.
So while Green and the Glasses Woman were on their way, he had settled on a plan: tell them everything he knew and hide nothing.
"You're here about the information on the Cyclops tribe that Ms. Xiweina Ye bought two years ago, aren't you?" McCain stated his guess outright, laying his cards on the table.
Ever since he had sold that information to Saintess Xiweina Ye two years earlier, he had felt uneasy about it.
He had read all of it at the time, and some of it was almost too strange to believe.
That caution was why he had gone into hiding as soon as the Holy Light Church went to war with the Divine Eagle
