Daniel looked at the grimacing Green Orc. The medic had his knee planted roughly against the warrior's chest while two other Orcs pinned his arms.
Without any anesthetic, the Orc medic took out a curved iron needle thicker than a cobbler's awl. He pulled out a length of grimy black cotton thread, found its end frayed, spat on it to dampen it, and threaded the needle. Then, with a wet squelch, he drove it into the flesh beside the warrior's wound. It crunched through the skin. He gave it a sharp tug and tied a tight knot...
The Orc warrior trembled with pain. Staring at the medic's ferocious expression, he looked more miserable than he had after taking a blade on the battlefield.
Fortunately, the medic worked fast. He had practiced on slabs of pork countless times, and in moments he had stitched up the wounded Orc. A shaman waiting nearby immediately cast Witch Doctor Healing to disinfect the wound and help it close.
Only then did Daniel ask, "What else did you see?"
The wounded Orc caught his breath. "Great Chieftain, when I was injured, I caught a glimpse of Skeleton Soldiers moving through the forest behind the enemy."
Daniel froze. The mention of Skeleton Soldiers immediately brought Green to mind, but Green would never collude with the enemy to attack them. Then Daniel thought of the North's other Necromancer—Locarius, the Undead Calamity!
Before Green's Undead Empire appeared, Locarius had been the most powerful Necromancer known in the region.
But Locarius kept a low profile. He rarely made his presence felt, preferring to stay home and study Necromancy. That was why few people paid much attention to him.
Daniel had not expected to see signs of the Undead in this attack. Perhaps Locarius had finally made his move.
