Background / History

Green first recruited a Skeleton Soldier from the Graveyard after absorbing the Psychic Energy of Baron Lonanks’s Wind Blade Bracelet. Unlike the damaged or randomly summoned undead commonly associated with novice Necromancers, the Soldier was intact, well equipped, intelligent, and capable of understanding vague commands 5.

Green initially lacked the Soul Summoning spell required to manifest it in the physical world. After learning the spell, he repeatedly summoned and dismissed the Soldier to test his limits. The Soldier could be recalled to the Graveyard, and items placed inside its armor could travel with it, making the undead troop a potential portable storage system 8.

The Skeleton Soldier’s combat ability became clear during Green’s Mages Association examination. It rapidly defeated one simulated construct and helped Green destroy the second, proving that Graveyard Soldiers were far more capable than ordinary novice summons 10.

Green later used a squad of eight Soldiers to ambush a disguised Hard-Skin Ghoul. Through formation tactics and coordinated shield attacks, they overcame an undead creature that initially believed ordinary Skeleton Soldiers could not threaten it 14.

The troop type changed significantly when Green equipped a Soldier with an enchanted rifle. The Graveyard converted the modified unit into a Gun Skeleton Soldier, strengthening its armor and adapting the rifle’s runes to Necromancy. Green then began producing armed formations by refitting ordinary Soldiers rather than recruiting the more expensive elite type directly 20.

Gun Skeleton Soldiers became the core of Green’s forces during his war against the Tower of Yin Spirits. Their enchanted bullets killed cult members before they could cast defensive spells, while their formations supported Ghouls and Ghosts in close combat and ambush operations 25 35 38.

Appearance

A standard Skeleton Soldier is a tall, heavily built skeleton with green soul fire burning inside its eye sockets. Its bones are unusually thick and sturdy, and it normally wears worn leather armor while carrying a shortsword and round shield 5 8.

Distinctive features include:

  • Height exceeding 1.9 meters.
  • Thick, iron-like white bones.
  • Green soul flame in the eye sockets.
  • Leather armor, helmet, shortsword, and round shield.
  • No rotten odor despite being undead.
  • Gun Skeleton variants wear leather-and-steel composite armor and carry enchanted rifles with bayonets 20.
  • Gun Skeleton rifles develop rust-covered surfaces and Necromancy-based runes inside the Graveyard 20.

Personality

The Skeleton Soldier possesses more intelligence and combat instinct than Green initially expects. It can understand vague commands, move independently during combat, and execute coordinated attacks as part of a formation 5 10.

It retains traces of individual hostility and resistance. One Soldier disliked being touched, resisted Green’s attempts to remove its armor, and refused to release its shortsword. Green’s authority nevertheless suppresses its hostility and compels submission 8.

As a troop, Skeleton Soldiers operate with discipline rather than mindless aggression. They use shields, bayonets, coordinated movement, covering fire, and formation tactics in response to Green’s commands 14 25.

Abilities & Skills

Necromantic Authority

Green possesses innate control over the Skeleton Soldiers recruited from his Graveyard.

  • Skeleton Soldiers kneel in submission when confronted by Green’s authority.
  • They obey direct and vague commands.
  • Green can summon, dismiss, position, and redeploy them during combat.
  • Their hostility does not prevent obedience, though they may resist handling or equipment removal. 8

Soul Summoning and Recall

Skeleton Soldiers can be brought from the Graveyard into the physical world through Soul Summoning.

  • Green can summon a specific Soldier rather than receiving a random undead creature.
  • A Soldier can appear at a chosen location within roughly five meters after Green improves his technique. 20
  • Summoned Soldiers can be returned to the Graveyard through Reverse Necromancy.
  • Equipment and objects placed inside their armor can travel with them.
  • Items left behind when a Soldier returns may rapidly decay, as happened to its shield. 8

Combat Ability

Skeleton Soldiers are highly capable close-combat units.

  • A standard Soldier possesses combat power of approximately 4.5.
  • Its strength is roughly comparable to a Junior Apprentice Knight in the Mages Association’s combat test. 10 15
  • It can block with a shield, counterattack with a shortsword, perform shield charges, and sever limbs.
  • Soldiers fight effectively in groups, surrounding stronger opponents and attacking in sequence.
  • Gun Skeleton Soldiers can use rifle bayonets in close combat and retain the same disciplined battlefield instincts. 14 25

Gun Skeleton Conversion

A Skeleton Soldier can evolve into a Gun Skeleton Soldier after being equipped with an enchanted rifle.

  • The Graveyard recognizes the modification as a new Level 1 elite troop type.
  • Combat power rises to 6.3.
  • The rifle’s original Evocation runes are converted into Necromancy runes.
  • The Soldier’s leather armor becomes a stronger leather-and-steel composite.
  • The rifle’s Psychic Energy can activate its runes.
  • Ordinary bullets gain a spell-breaking effect.
  • Accuracy and reload speed remain inferior to those of a trained knight, although the Soldiers quickly learn the basic firing motions. 20

Undead Resilience

Skeleton Soldiers can continue fighting through injuries that would disable living soldiers.

  • A rifle bullet shattered one Soldier’s rib, but it immediately rose and continued pursuing the kidnappers.
  • The Soldier remains functional as long as its soul fire is not extinguished. 17
  • Their lack of flesh makes them unaffected by blood loss and allows them to fight while covered in blood or severely damaged.
  • Their durability is insufficient against extremely powerful enemies or attacks with strong armor-piercing capability. 25

Coordinated Formations

Green uses Skeleton Soldiers as a disciplined military force rather than disposable summons.

  • Shield-bearing Soldiers can pin or redirect larger undead creatures.
  • Rifle units provide covering fire while Ghouls attack at close range.
  • Soldiers can surround buildings, block exits, and establish crossfire.
  • Gun Skeleton Soldiers combine frontal fire with Ghost ambushes and Ghoul assaults. 25 38

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Shortsword — Standard melee weapon for ordinary Skeleton Soldiers.
  • Round shield — Used for defense, shield charges, and coordinated formations.
  • Leather armor and helmet — Standard equipment before firearm evolution.
  • Enchanted rifle — Primary weapon of Gun Skeleton Soldiers; its runes provide ordinary bullets with a spell-breaking effect.
  • Bayonet — Allows Gun Skeleton Soldiers to fight effectively in close quarters.
  • Leather-and-steel composite armor — Enhanced armor granted when the Graveyard recognizes the Gun Skeleton Soldier form 20.
  • Portable storage function — Objects placed inside a Soldier’s armor can be transported into the Graveyard 8.

Relationships

  • Green — Master and controller. Green recruits, summons, equips, and commands the Skeleton Soldiers. 5 8
  • The Graveyard — Source of recruitment, restoration, equipment evolution, and troop classification. 5 20
  • Hard-Skin Ghoul — Allied elite undead unit. It fights alongside Skeleton Soldiers during ambushes and large battles. 14 25
  • Evil Spirit Maxim — Allied spiritual combat unit. Maxim’s soul attacks complement the Soldiers’ rifle fire and formation tactics. 25 38
  • Elizabeth Franton — Interested in the unusual quality of Green’s Skeleton Soldier and requests an opportunity to examine one. 16
  • Penny Wilson — Witnesses a Gun Skeleton Soldier kill Tower members and is shocked by its strength and equipment. 25

Story Role / Major Arcs

Graveyard Recruitment

The Skeleton Soldier establishes Green’s first reliable military asset. Its superior quality convinces him that the Graveyard can provide a standing army rather than the random, damaged summons used by ordinary novice Necromancers 5 8.

Mages Association Test

During Green’s combat examination, the Soldier defeats simulated construct monsters with exceptional speed and skill. The test confirms that Green’s Graveyard troops are combat-capable despite his low official rank 10.

Hard-Skin Ghoul Ambush

The Skeleton Soldiers demonstrate the strength of coordinated tactics by surrounding and subduing a Level 2 Hard-Skin Ghoul. Their victory shows that formation discipline can compensate for the natural hierarchy among undead creatures 14.

Firearm Evolution

Green’s decision to equip the Soldiers with enchanted rifles produces the Gun Skeleton Soldier. This development combines necromancy with the kingdom’s military technology and greatly increases the army’s ranged power 20.

Tower of Yin Spirits Conflict

Gun Skeleton Soldiers kill corrupted cult members, overwhelm defensive formations, and support Green during the rescue of Penny. Their rifle fire is especially effective against enemies who underestimate them as ordinary Skeleton Soldiers 24 25.

Destruction of the Tower’s Bases

Green deploys dozens of Gun Skeleton Soldiers during assaults on Tower strongholds. They clear entire halls, suppress counterattacks, and provide covering fire for Ghouls and Ghosts 35 38.

Pyramid Assault

Inside the ancient pyramid, Gun Skeleton Soldiers kill David Root and several Tower members before the cultists can organize a defense. Green uses them as the ranged element of a combined force alongside Ghost assassins and Ghouls 37 38.

Defense Against Possession and Infiltration

Skeleton Soldiers help destroy a patrolman’s possessed corpse and surround the escaped spirit after it leaves the body. Their ability to combine gunfire, Bone Spikes, and containment prevents the spirit from escaping 50.

Trivia

  • Ordinary Skeleton Soldiers cost five Psychic Energy to recruit, while a Gun Skeleton Soldier costs ten; Green can save Psychic Energy by recruiting ordinary Soldiers and buying rifles with gold instead. 5 20
  • Green’s Graveyard Soldiers are not random summons, so they are intact and consistently equipped rather than potentially missing limbs. 8
  • A standard Soldier’s shortsword is difficult to remove because it refuses to release the weapon. 8
  • The first rifle-equipped Soldier was initially less accurate and slower to reload than a trained knight, but the Graveyard’s evolution transformed it into a specialized elite troop. 20
  • The Tower of Yin Spirits repeatedly mistakes the Soldiers for weak cannon fodder, allowing Green’s opening volleys to inflict devastating casualties. 25 38
  • Green considered developing Cannon Skeleton Soldiers after discovering that rifle fire was insufficient against enemies with exceptionally strong defenses. 25
