Underground Chamber (1)

Miracles did not happen at the drop of a hat. Green sent every Ghost through Minster Academy, searching it inside and out, but found no trace of Penny. He had expected as much, yet he was still disappointed.

The search was not entirely fruitless, though. Beneath the ruins of the academy's main teaching building, directly below where the Heart of Nature had been, lay a chamber over two meters high and roughly four meters long and wide. It had no entrance or exit. Rather than a basement, it was more like a tomb buried deep underground. If Ghosts could not pass through the earth, this space more than five meters below the surface would have been almost impossible to discover.

When Green received the news, he was busy collecting the Psychic Energy left scattered around the grounds.

The shriveled flesh and remnants of the Magic Circle still held plenty of Psychic Energy. Secretly delighted, Green picked up his pace and gathered nearly two thousand Psychic Energy in less than half an hour. Just then, Maxim brought word of the underground chamber. Green perked up. He immediately used Visual Synchronization to control a Ghost and entered the chamber.

The Ghost had already gone inside when it discovered the chamber without triggering any Defensive Magic Circle, so Green did not take too many precautions. He entered a spotless, orderly room. Neat white marble lined its walls, and blood from some unknown species traced an ancient Magic Circle across the floor. It had four Spell Circles from the outside in, indicating that it could reach the fourth-circle level when activated. Green's knowledge of magic, however, was not enough to tell him what it did.
