Transmigration and Sky Island

Ye Mu was formerly a shut-in from Earth who transmigrated into a body with no memories of its previous owner. His clothing and a large red gemstone led him to suspect that the body had belonged to someone wealthy or noble. 3

He arrived on Sky Island and met the young Enel, initially fearing that Enel might become the dangerous ruler he remembered from One Piece. Instead, the two bonded through survival, food, and their shared discovery of Devil Fruits. 2 3

Ye Mu refused to simply take the Rumble-Rumble Fruit Enel had offered him, choosing to preserve Enel’s trust. After learning of a second, flame-patterned fruit in Shandora, he pursued it and consumed the Flame-Flame Fruit while trapped inside the Sky Island Ruler. 4 6 7

Over the following years, Ye Mu and Enel developed their Devil Fruits and bodies through harsh basic exercise, energy-storage training, and Pagaya’s Sea Cloud Gravity Room. 9 11 Rayleigh later tested Ye Mu’s resolve, triggering his Conqueror’s Haki awakening and beginning his instruction in Haki and swordsmanship. Lililu later revealed that she had been ordered by Rocks D. Zebec to protect infant Ye Mu and send him to Sky Island after the God Valley incident. According to her, Ye Mu was already dead when Grins D. Lexuan handed him to her, and his survival was an unexpected miracle. 192

Ye Mu is highly adaptive, analytical, and strategic. He uses his knowledge of the world’s future alongside deduction and political timing, such as treating heavily guarded Loguetown as a temporary refuge because the Marines could not risk disrupting Roger’s execution. 32

He is ambitious enough to declare that he was “born to overturn this world,” but he does not seek subordination under either Marines or pirates. He rejects Shiki’s recruitment and later refuses an alliance with him against Sengoku because he believes discovering his limits through another person would be meaningless. 28 284 293

Despite his arrogance, teasing, and appetite for dangerous battles, Ye Mu shows strong moral restraint. He refused to betray Enel over the Rumble-Rumble Fruit, refuses to erase the consciousnesses of his Devil Fruits for greater power, and treats the Sky Pirate Crew as a family built around protecting one another’s happiness. 3 132 237

His pursuit of strength is also rooted in loneliness. With no childhood memories or clear identity, he describes himself as a drifting boat without a destination; Freya’s reassurance that he has the crew helps him confront that isolation. 132
