Background / History

Enel was originally a weak, isolated child on Sky Island. He was proud, suspicious, and quick to anger, especially when Ye Mu called him a “kid,” but he also suffered from loneliness and abuse. His relationship with Ye Mu began when the two met while hungry and gradually developed into a brother-like bond. 2 5

Ye Mu gave Enel a Devil Fruit as a test of his loyalty. Enel initially showed greed but ultimately accepted the fruit without betraying Ye Mu. When Ye Mu was swallowed by the Sky Island Ruler, Enel ate the Rumble-Rumble Fruit and returned to fight the creature despite having almost no experience with his new power. 6 7

After surviving the encounter, Enel and Ye Mu accepted one another as brothers and spent years training together in Upper Yard. Enel focused heavily on developing the Rumble-Rumble Fruit while also strengthening his body. He later awakened Mantra and became capable of fighting Ye Mu despite Ye Mu’s superior physical strength. 9 11

Enel’s worldview changed after meeting Gol D. Roger. Roger’s presence overwhelmed him and exposed how insignificant his former dominance over Sky Island had been. The encounter humbled Enel and introduced him to the wider scale of power in the world. 13

After leaving Sky Island, Enel became the vice-captain of the Sky Pirate Crew. He later developed the Eight Thunder Gods fighting system, awakened Conqueror’s Haki, and rose to become captain of the Thunder God Pirate Crew and one of the New World’s Emperors. 96 100 341 402

Appearance

As a child, Enel was physically weak and carried numerous scars from abuse. 5 As an adult, he grows to more than two meters tall and develops a powerful physique. He has golden hair, contemptuous eyes, and an unruly, defiant presence. 17

Personality

Enel is proud, theatrical, and intensely confident in his own power. His arrogance comes partly from his early dominance on Sky Island and partly from his belief that the Rumble-Rumble Fruit makes him divine. He enjoys fighting powerful opponents and often treats battles as opportunities to prove the superiority of his “divine power.” 13 25 95

Despite his pride, Enel is deeply loyal to Ye Mu. His decision to return to the Sky Island Ruler as a child was motivated by fear of losing the first person who had treated him like a brother. 7 His feelings for Ye Mu later become complicated by admiration, jealousy, and insecurity, particularly after Ye Mu awakens Conqueror’s Haki before him. 99

Enel also becomes protective of his crewmates. Baby-5’s willingness to shield him during his defeat by Chinjao forces him to recognize his responsibility as vice-captain. His awakening of Conqueror’s Haki follows his realization that he must protect the crew rather than fight only for personal strength. 99 100

As a captain, Enel combines conquest with pragmatic rule. After taking Troya’s treasure, he leaves the kingdom under the administration of three citizens and gives them a Den Den Mushi so they can request help if trouble arises. 341

The Rumble-Rumble Fruit allows Enel to create, control, and transform into lightning. It provides extreme speed, high-temperature electrical attacks, and large-scale area destruction. It is described as the strongest Logia in the Marines’ intelligence briefing. 3 202 375

Raigo

Raigo is Enel’s largest-scale lightning attack. He gathers thunderclouds into a massive black cloud and causes lightning to descend over a wide area. With Ye Mu’s assistance, Enel uses it to destroy an enemy fleet of more than fifty ships. 211 375

The attack is powerful enough to destroy an island, but it originally required pre-existing thunderclouds and was vulnerable to interruption. The Cloud-Cloud Fruit was acquired to eliminate those limitations. 220

Mamaragan Domain

Mamaragan Domain covers an entire sea with thunder and lightning. Enel used it against the Silver Axe Pirates, nearly annihilating their fighting forces in a single attack. 375
