After waking with no memories in Dingjiang Prefecture, Ding Songyan uncovered a dangerous book among his belongings and became entangled in the Zhen Estate’s plans while building a reputation as a storyteller. The honored guest revealed that the Zhen Estate had been watching him, leaving Ding Songyan aware that he had been drawn into a larger game.
Ding Songyan uncovered the forces manipulating him and the Zhen Estate, while his family’s hidden identities and Yan Changqing’s plans came to light. As rival sects and gangs attacked the estate, Ding Qingyan entered the secret prison to rescue the limbless Yan Changqing.
After killing Yan Changqing, Ding Songyan hid and consumed part of the Hundun Remains, then joined Tao Wenshu at the Xiaoming Sect and rapidly advanced his cultivation. At Flat Lake Mountain, he helped investigate an evil spirit and killed Feng Zhengning when the disguised attacker tried to ambush Zheng Zhuxi.
Ding Songyan and Zheng Zhuxi investigate strange Netherworld activity, strengthen their allies, and pursue a stolen flower and Small Iron Box at Dangkang Temple. The investigation ends with He Luo’s death and the revelation that Qin Guanchan, called the Devil Lord by the righteous sects, gave him an immortal seed.
Ding Songyan and Zheng Zhuxi pursued the Three Fiends, investigated Wangtianmen Island, and learned more about Qin Guanchan and Kunlun. In Qisong Prefecture, they uncovered Yan Peng’s crimes and encountered a string of deaths linked to dreams.
Ding Songyan helped expose Chen Jindong’s dream murders, refined his Dream Sword, and spent the New Year with Zheng Zhuxi’s family. He then traveled toward Yuejiang Prefecture with Pan Yunzhou, where his investigation led him to confront Ge Qi over Old Man Jiang’s identity.
Ding Songyan uncovered the Two-Faced Clan’s demon seed plot and killed Bai Zhaolin after Tao Wenshu died in their duel. As the Xiaoming Sect mourned Tao Wenshu and prepared for the coming Consort Selection, Ding Songyan continued his cultivation and warned allies about the threat.
Ding Songyan settled into his guard post at Prince Kang’s Residence and pursued a series of threats tied to the Ghost-Wyrm Path and the Accumulated Evil Path. After helping Ma Accountant’s son and uncovering corruption, he suspected the elusive Emissary had infiltrated the residence.
Ding Songyan killed Sun Feiyang and uncovered the Accumulated Evil Path’s plans, while masked attacks and Ji Hanyi’s schemes drew suspicion toward him. The arc ended with Steward Peng Jushan asking Ding Songyan to undertake a task involving Spirit Walking Through the Netherworld.
Ding Songyan protected Wu Zheng from Prince Shen’s agents, drew closer to Twelfth Madam Luo, and enlisted her help against Ji Hanyi. Their investigation of Ji Hanyi’s activities uncovered a failed Shamanic Religion ritual, while Ji already knew Twelfth Madam Luo’s identity.
