Background / History

Odin ruled Asgard through an era of conquest, defeating the Dark Elves, Fire Giants, and Frost Giants before establishing Asgard’s dominance over the Nine Realms. He took the Casket of Ancient Winters after defeating the Frost Giants and adopted Laufey’s son, Loki. His earlier expansion was carried out alongside Hela, whose ambition eventually frightened him enough to imprison her. 114 131 234

When Rimuru attempted to devour Mjolnir’s divine inscription, she was drawn into Odin’s divine realm and confronted by a divine-sense clone of Odin. The clone attacked her with divine weapons, broke through her layered defenses, sealed her with the Tomb of All Souls, and finally used the Lightning of Destruction. 116 117

Rimuru survived by redirecting the Lightning of Destruction into her Infinite Prison, then absorbed its remnants. Odin recognized both Rimuru’s exceptional potential and the powerful being sealed within her, deciding that killing her would cost too much divine power while Asgard still required his protection. 118

Rather than continue the conflict, Odin negotiated with Rimuru. He supplied Uru Metal, a Giant Statue Flora branch, and Dragon Tendon—enough material for three hammers—and asked her to teach Thor the ways of kingship.
