"It's getting late. We still need to make our beds. Oh, we got so caught up playing that I forgot how much we have left to unpack." Ai clapped her hands, looking reluctant to leave.
They're finally leaving. Hurry up and go.
Ellen was screaming inside, but she kept her polite, stiff smile in place.
"Goodbye, Miss Ellen. If we have a pillow fight tonight, we'll invite you if you're free."
Again?!
Ellen felt her pupils quake.
"See you later." Mii nodded.
Once the three of them had gone, Ellen's legs gave way. Her muscles, tense for so long, finally lost their strength, and she sagged against the wall. Disheveled blonde hair clung to her cheeks as cold sweat slid down her temples.
Finally... it's finally over. In that short time, Ellen felt as though she had lost something terribly important.
Then her stomach began to churn. Those British dishes had been vicious—the fish heads in the Stargazy Pie were cold, the Haggis was hot, and the jellied eels were icy. The three temperatures mixed in her stomach, leaving her gut in turmoil.
Clutching her stomach, she hurried toward the restroom with one hand against the wall. Given her feeble constitution, though, her hurried pace was no faster than a walk.
Shiori happened upon Ellen as she came out of the hot spring. Her damp blue hair clung to her back, and she had changed from her bath towel into casual clothes. Her brown eyes widened slightly when she spotted the pale-blonde figure struggling along the wall.
She pretended not to notice and awkwardly twirled a lock of hair beside her face, confirming to herself:
Hmm... looks like what I added earlier is working.
Too easily embarrassed to stand there and gloat at Ellen, she hurried away.
"Ugh... how tragic..."
