Background and History

Rinne appears when Shiori’s life is in danger and activates Eden, a barrier covering Tenguu City. She was created for a mission centered on keeping Shiori alive and preventing uncontrolled spiritual power from endangering her. Within Eden, Rinne inserts herself into others’ memories as Shiori’s childhood friend and becomes part of the Itsuka household 118 133 159 175.

Eden resets the city when Shiori dies. Rinne can alter events within the barrier to pursue an outcome in which everyone is happy, but maintaining it consumes her power. She repeatedly suppresses Huanyue’s memories, even as Huanyue begins to recognize her and notice her weakening condition. When confronted, Rinne admits that the childhood history she gave herself was implanted 133 137 138 152 175.

Rinne eventually accepts that Eden is becoming dangerous and agrees to return everyone to reality. Her attempt to let Huanyue consume the barrier’s power fails because their spiritual powers reject one another; she asks Shiori to seal her power instead. Rinne disappears as Eden ends, despite having promised Huanyue they would leave together 180 182 183.

Huanyue finds Rinne in Eden’s remnants but cannot pull her out by physical force. After learning that Rinne has no ordinary body, the two use Featherheal Sovereign to construct one, with Rinne shaping its details herself. In reality, Rinne is initially forgotten by the others and receives care from Reine. She later reunites with Huanyue, who does not consciously remember their time in Eden but welcomes her back 186 187 188 192 193.

Appearance

Rinne ordinarily has short pink hair styled with a side braid and light-brown eyes. Her Astral Dress changes her appearance markedly 121 150 159.

Personality

Rinne is attentive and capable in daily life: she cooks, helps with housework, comforts Yoshino, and repairs Yoshinon. She is less comfortable accepting care herself. Huanyue and Shiori later notice that Rinne has begun serving others so constantly that she seems to have lost interest in her own happiness 133 151 164 166.

Her devotion can become controlling. Convinced that Eden will protect the people she loves, Rinne changes memories and repeats events without their consent. She later apologizes and acknowledges that deciding what was best for Huanyue—even through self-sacrifice—dismissed Huanyue’s wishes 133 175 180 188.

Rinne’s Angel creates and maintains a barrier around Tenguu City. Within it, she describes herself as its administrator, able to change the world in pursuit of everyone’s happiness 118 133 156.

• Shiori Itsuka — Rinne’s supposed childhood-friend history was implanted through Eden, but their affection becomes meaningful to both of them. Protecting Shiori’s life is central to Rinne’s mission 133 175 182 185.

The False Rinne

After the original Rinne vanishes, Nia creates an imitation to fill her place. Huanyue identifies her during a fireworks display because, despite their happy time together, she cannot sense the real Rinne’s emotional presence. The imitation initially has no emotions of her own, but her connection to the original Rinne through Eden allows feelings to develop. She independently tells Huanyue the truth, urges her to find the original Rinne, and dissolves into a page preserving important memories 172.
