Night lay thick around the courtyard. Fugaku stood amid a spreading Black Mist, then used the Body Flicker Technique to leap over the wall. His figure vanished.

Uchiha Sanada's house was dark and silent in sleep. The bedroom door opened quietly, then closed on its own without a sound.

Uchiha Sanada lay asleep in bed. Suddenly, his eyes opened, then clouded with confusion. Fugaku stood before him, hidden in the Black Mist. A pair of Mangekyo Sharingan hung in the air, spinning rapidly.

Uchiha Sanada's father had died on a mission years ago. His mother was an ordinary clan member who had awakened only the One Tomoe Sharingan. Long since retired, she was now a housewife. Sanada was their only child.

Fugaku saw nothing unusual in Sanada's arrogance. Most clan members who awakened the Sharingan felt a measure of pride; many simply kept it hidden. Sanada showed his more openly.

In the dream, war broke out in the Land of Rain. Sanada was called up and sent there on a mission with two Konoha Chunin.

A mission sending only three Chunin to a battlefield would have been all but impossible in reality. But this was a dream, where even the strangest things could seem reasonable.

In the quiet forest, the occasional breeze rustled the leaves. The three moved swiftly through the trees. The crimson Two-Tomoe Sharingan in Sanada's eyes spun as he scanned their surroundings.

Behind Sanada, one of his companions whispered, "Azu, what rotten luck. Of all people, we had to be teamed up with this guy. He was a stuck-up jerk back at the Ninja Academy, and he hasn't changed a bit."
