Fugaku had ignored Danzo for over half a year. He hadn't expected him to pop up again just to make trouble. It seemed he needed to give Danzo something to do.
The next morning, Fugaku went to the Hokage's Office. The Hokage was alone, reviewing documents.
"Fugaku, what brings you here?" the Third Hokage asked with a smile.
"Hokage, I'd like permission to examine the Scroll of Seals."
The Hokage froze. His first instinct was to refuse, but he stopped himself. He had no reason to deny the request.
"Your contributions to Konoha during the war more than qualify you. I'm curious, though. Why the sudden interest in sealing techniques?
"The scroll contains forbidden techniques. If something goes wrong, they could even hurt you. With your abilities, you have no need to risk learning the ninjutsu recorded there."
Fugaku said, "I've hit a wall in my research into various formulas. I heard the Second once used coordinates formed from a formula to travel through space.
"That became the Flying Thunder God Technique. I want to study its principles. They might help me a great deal."
Hearing the name Flying Thunder God again brought back memories for the Third Hokage. The Second had developed the space-time ninjutsu before Konoha was founded.
Even the First Hokage reportedly hadn't learned it. Without exceptional talent and insight, a person could hardly understand it, let alone master it. The Third Hokage and his five companions had studied it together.
Not one of them had succeeded. After becoming Hokage, the Third Hokage had tried training in it on his own, but made no progress and eventually gave up.
