Background and History

Baiyu grows up in Jiangshui Village under the care of Su Wu, the healer known as the Medicine King. Although he calls Su Wu “Grandpa,” Baiyu believes they may not be biologically related. He retains the knowledge and outlook of a doctor from another world, a secret he keeps to himself. As a child, he studies herbs and resolves to heal Su Wu’s crippled legs 1 3.

After his martial soul awakens, Baiyu combines Su Wu’s teachings with the Shennong Cauldron to treat his old injuries. The treatment restores Su Wu’s vitality and helps him break through to level 85 2 4. Baiyu subsequently trains in the Star Dou Great Forest, choosing soul rings suited to healing and nurturing life rather than killing power alone 6 9 10.

Baiyu later studies at Heaven Dou Royal Academy, where he and Zhu Zhuqing defeat the Imperial Fighting Team. He treats the opponents they injured, then joins the team as a reserve 21 26 27 28. His medical work leads to an agreement with Dugu Bo: access to the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well in exchange for treating the poison afflicting the Dugu family. Baiyu helps Dugu Bo form a Soul Core and escape his lifelong poisoning; Dugu Bo pledges to protect him in return 29 34.

Appearance

Baiyu grows from a composed six-year-old into a taller youth with a gentle manner and a faint scent of herbs 1 9.

• His eyes are described as calm and gentle at age nine 9.
• After inheriting the Ice and Fire Dragon Kings’ essence, his eyes become red and blue, and he can manifest dragon claws and one red and one blue wing 35 36 37.

Personality

Baiyu’s commitment to medicine is rooted in preserving life. He promises the Dragonblood Medicineheart Wood that he will protect plants and use herbs to help rather than harm. Later, he gives up the chance to claim the Azure Origin Ancient Cypress’s seed as a soul bone so it can grow again 6 10. He also repays kindness: he heals Jiang Zheng’s cultivation bottleneck because Jiang Zheng cared for him when he was young 14.

He is confident enough to challenge stronger or more numerous opponents, and he enjoys surprising people with his abilities. That confidence is tempered by restraint: he heals the Imperial Fighting Team after defeating them and offers Dugu Bo a safer treatment alongside a risky Soul Core procedure 20 24 27 32.

Shennong Cauldron and medicinal arts

• Healing and refinement: The cauldron gathers plant essence and life force. Baiyu uses it to extract medicinal power, prepare baths and pills, and heal damaged meridians 2 4 14 33.
• Spirit Awakening: He can stir awareness in plants. At the Ice and Fire Yin Yang Well, he awakens the valley’s herbs, including the Ten Great Immortal Herbs 5 31 32.
• Cauldron world: Yin-yang energy creates an inner world within the cauldron. Baiyu invites awakened spirit plants to live there; it later becomes a stable, self-sustaining realm 31 36 47.

Soul-ring skills

• Hundred Herbs Domain: Commands and senses plants, restores allies and the environment, purifies harmful influences, and weakens enemies’ Soul Power, healing and attacks. Its Heart-Scorching Medicine Flame burns mental rather than physical power 7.
• Spirit Deer Nine Seals: An offensive skill that manifests a nine-colored deer and spirit fawns; Baiyu uses it to drive much of the Imperial Fighting Team out of the arena 9 26.
• Azure Jade Barrier: A cypress-like defensive barrier. In testing, it withstands level-30 force, weakens against level-40 force and breaks under level-50 force 11.
• Breath Soil and Five-Colored Divine Light: His fourth-ring skills enrich and control the land, strengthen Hundred Herbs Domain, and draw attacks and other powers into the cauldron for conversion into nourishment 38.

Dragon King inheritance and martial soul fusion

• Ice and fire powers: The Fire Dragon King’s left arm bone grants destructive flame; the Ice Dragon King’s right arm bone grants extreme cold. Together, the bones also give Baiyu wings and flight 35.
• Shennong Angel Sacred Form: Baiyu can fuse martial souls with Qian Renxue. The fusion grants the offensive Heavenly Light Dust-Cutting and the healing, protective Myriad Woods Rejuvenation. Using both in succession while their Soul Power levels differ greatly injures Baiyu’s meridians 18.

Equipment, Soul Bones and Items

• Blue Silver Emperor soul bone: Strengthens Baiyu’s body and grants flight and Immortality, which heals injuries and can restore fatal wounds up to three times a day 5 6.
• Heart of Hundred Herbs: A soul bone formed from the Dragonblood Medicineheart Wood’s medicine heart. It aids recovery and protects his heart meridians and soul; its power is tied to his oath not to kill indiscriminately 6 8 9.
• Ice and Fire Dragon King arm bones: Carry his opposing flame and cold powers and grant Ice and Fire Dragon Wings 35.
• Angel feather: A life-bound feather given by Qian Renxue. It calms and purifies the mind and grows warm when she is nearby 7.
• Medicine King Bracelet: A Soul Tool received from Su Wu that holds medicinal herbs 4.

Relationships

• Su Wu — His grandfather and medicinal-arts teacher. Baiyu heals Su Wu’s longstanding injuries, while Su Wu guides and protects him 1 4 6.
• Jiang Zheng — Helped awaken Baiyu’s martial soul and looked after him as a child. Baiyu later helps him break through to Soul King 1 2 14.
• Qian Renxue — Their martial souls resonate and can fuse. They exchange letters while apart, and Baiyu later makes a pill that helps her reach Soul Saint; their affection becomes openly romantic 6 9 18 47 48.
• Zhu Zhuqing — Baiyu protects and heals her before she becomes Su Wu’s disciple and Baiyu’s junior fellow disciple. They attend the academy together and grow close 11 19 21 25.
• Dugu Bo — Initially tests Baiyu’s ability to treat poison. After Baiyu helps cure him and form a Soul Core, Dugu Bo becomes his protector 29 32 34.
• Yu Tianheng — An academy teammate whose martial soul evolves toward a True Dragon with Baiyu’s help. Yu Tianheng’s grandfather later thanks Baiyu on behalf of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan 42 49.
• Blue Silver Emperor / A-Lan — A plant companion who tends Baiyu’s herb garden and assists his cultivation. Baiyu refuses to treat her as a wager 9 29.
