Sang Ya jumped. "Are you okay?"
Looking at her cousin's disheveled state, she felt a secret thrill.
Hahaha, so this day has finally come for you! Grandpa will never forgive you now, you idiot!
But her parents are coming to apologize tomorrow. What excuse can I use to go with them?
Sang Fang brought her younger cousin Sang Yue into the hospital room. Chubby Sang Yue spotted the milk tea on the bedside table at once and shouted, "You're having treats without me! You didn't bring me any milk tea! I'm telling Mom and Dad!"
He was overweight and had been forced to follow a strict diet lately. Sang Yue craved treats every day, and now his two older cousins had sneaked some without him.
Sang Yue felt wronged, and he intended to complain at the top of his lungs.
Sang Ya and Sang Zhi were startled by his shout. By the time they looked over, the nimble little chubby boy had already run into the hallway and started yelling.
We're doomed!
They really were doomed.
Ten minutes later, Sang Ya and Sang Zhi had both been thoroughly scolded, and their allowances had been docked.
Sang Yue was reprimanded by a doctor for making a racket in the hospital. His father smacked his bottom, too, leaving him bawling.
Sang Fang: ...
The world is such a noisy place. I just want to go home.
When Sang Ya's uncle came to apologize, Shen Baili was at school for PE. The geography teacher had taken a previous PE period, and this time she gave it back to the PE teacher.
So that afternoon, Class One and Class Two had PE together.
"Everyone, as usual, we'll warm up with two laps," the PE teacher said.
"Everyone, turn left."
"Running again?" Zhu Zhitao complained under her breath. "Why don't we sneak off and hide?"
"I want the exercise," Qiao Yi said.
"Me too," said Shen Baili.
"I refuse," said Sang Fang.
"Fine. You three cover for me," Zhu Zhitao said.
While the PE teacher wasn't looking, Zhu Zhitao hid under a tree with a few other students. They slipped back into the group during the second lap.
Looking at her panting classmates, she congratulated herself on her cleverness.
Once Class One had finished running, the PE teacher sent the class sports representative and a few students to fetch equipment from the storeroom, letting everyone choose their own activity.
"Dismissed. Free time."
Shen Baili and her friends went to the school store for popsicles. When they returned, they found the basketball court surrounded by people.
"Wow, Sang Fang's playing basketball!" Zhu Zhitao spotted Sang Fang running across the court.
"The boys from Class One and Class Two are playing a match."
They stood on a slope with a view of the whole court.
"Oh my god, the two hottest guys at No. 1 High School are playing too!" Zhu Zhitao cried.
Qiao Yi and Shen Baili looked at the excited girl in confusion. "Who?"
"Meng Jiu'an and Lu Mingqian from Class Two! Don't tell me you don't even know that!"
Zhu Zhitao eagerly filled her friends in.
"They're both so handsome. Loads of girls in our class say they're like male leads straight out of a novel: the gentle, unattainable school heartthrob and the rebellious, sunny school bad boy."
"Everyone on the forum talks about them. Students argue every day over which of them is the hottest guy at No. 1 High School."
"They're both such a treat to look at. When you're that handsome, you stand out anywhere."
Shen Baili bit into her popsicle. It was deliciously cold.
She looked toward the court.
The boys ran beneath the sun, sweating freely and brimming with youthful energy. Even the air seemed to grow hotter.
Shen Baili picked out the two "heartthrobs" at once. She knew Lu Mingqian; they were both class monitors and spoke occasionally.
Lu Mingqian certainly fit the description of a gentle, unattainable heartthrob. As for the other one...
The boy on the court moved with speed and agility, weaving past defenders with the ball. He broke through one obstacle after another, then leaped and threw down a spectacular dunk.
The whistle blew. The match was over.
Class Two had won.
He let go of the rim and dropped lightly to the ground, landing on his feet. It was an ordinary move, yet he made it look captivating.
Cheers rose all around the court. Meng Jiu'an and Lu Mingqian walked off together, chatting and laughing.
Lu Mingqian wiped his face with a towel a teammate handed him. Sweat had dampened the hair at his forehead, lending him a restrained sensuality.
Meng Jiu'an simply lifted the hem of his shirt to wipe away the sweat, exposing sharply defined abs. Sweat traced the grooves of his muscles. He looked both commanding and irresistibly alluring.
The spectators off the court shrieked at the sight of the two handsome boys.
Just standing together, they were the most striking sight around.
The sun shone brightly, and the boys were in high spirits.
"So handsome! So handsome!" Zhu Zhitao bounced in place. "Why does Class Two get two gorgeous guys? Couldn't they give us one?"
"If I got to see those faces every day, I'd have so much more motivation to study."
Qiao Yi and Shen Baili: "..."
As if sensing their gaze, Lu Mingqian and Meng Jiu'an looked up toward Shen Baili at the same time.
Lu Mingqian spotted her and waved.
Shen Baili nodded in acknowledgment. Her eyes happened to meet Meng Jiu'an's defiant gaze, but she calmly looked away.
"Oh my god, they're looking at us!" Zhu Zhitao said. "Aah, I'm getting dizzy from all this handsomeness."
"Then I'll hold you up," Qiao Yi said.
"...You should read fewer novels and more textbooks."
"I'm worried you'll get carried away."
Zhu Zhitao pressed a hand to her heart. "It's food for the soul! Food for the soul!"
"Studying is hard enough. I need to look at handsome guys to recharge."
