The sales associate froze, then quickly recovered. "We also have some gowns with striking designs, but they're not for everyone. It would be best for the person wearing one to come try it on."

"Could you show them to us?" Shen Wan asked.

"Of course." The associate opened a door, revealing rows of colorful gowns.

"This season's clothes are certainly distinctive," Xie Liuzheng remarked.

Xie Liuzheng felt the same, so they went next door.

A bag caught Shen Wan's eye. "Could you take that bag down so I can have a look?"

The associate in this store was nowhere near as welcoming as the one next door. She had overheard how Shen Wan and Xie Liuzheng had shopped there, and her tone was dismissive. "It's not convenient to take bags down from that shelf. If you can't afford it, just look from there."

Xie Liuzheng rarely shopped at malls and had never been treated like this before. "What did you just say? I didn't catch that."

The associate rolled her eyes.

Shen Wan didn't get angry at her rudeness. Her voice remained gentle. "May I ask, is it your rule that anyone who looks at something must buy it? Or is it the store's rule?"

"Or perhaps the brand's?"

Shen Wan's voice never wavered, but her words hit hard.

The associate's face changed on the spot. She had thought Shen Wan would be a pushover. Instead, she had picked a fight with the wrong person. "I... I..."

Cold sweat broke out across her forehead. She wanted to explain, to find some way out of this.

The store manager came out of the stockroom and saw the confrontation. Her heart sank, and she hurried over.

"Hello. May I ask what happened?"

When she saw Shen Wan's face, she was stunned. Her tone turned respectful and anxious.

This store was also a WV brand. An incident involving a veteran employee at the Xie Family's regular store had badly damaged the brand's reputation, and the entire group had undergone retraining. The manager remembered Shen Wan's face well.

She hadn't expected another incident so soon after the last one had been resolved.

"Mrs. Xie, welcome to our store."

"This associate is new and didn't know better. I'll have her apologize to you."

Seeing how respectfully the manager treated Shen Wan, the snobbish associate's heart pounded. Had she offended someone important?

She admitted her mistake at once, bowing ninety degrees. "I'm sorry! I failed to recognize who you were, and my attitude was unacceptable. Please forgive me."

The manager hurried to apologize as well. She bore some responsibility too.

"Do you know what she did?" Xie Liuzheng asked curiously.

One look at the associate's guilty expression told the manager there was more to the story. Rather than answer directly, she deftly passed the question to the associate.

The associate immediately recounted everything that had happened, leaving nothing out.

The manager's face darkened further. She bowed so deeply she was nearly folded in half.

Shen Wan wasn't all that angry. She had encountered far more humiliating situations at work before.

She had no intention of making things difficult for the manager, but she couldn't simply let this pass.

"Take that bag down and let me see it." Shen Wan pointed at the associate.

The manager gave her a look. The associate immediately fetched a stool, took down the bag, and held it out to Shen Wan.

Shen Wan didn't take it. "It's nothing special up close. Put it back."

The associate was terrified. Whatever Shen Wan said, she did. "Of course, Mrs. Xie."

"Liuzheng, let's go." Shen Wan had had enough.

Xie Liuzheng hadn't had a chance to step in the entire time. "Okay."

Shen Wan had planned to leave, but right in front of the store's associate and manager, Xie Liuzheng walked into their competitor's boutique. She bought every bag there except for a few particularly ugly ones.

"Charge it." Xie Liuzheng took out her black card to pay, then called her discreetly positioned bodyguards over to carry everything.

She hadn't wanted to draw this much attention, but someone had gone looking for trouble.

The snobbish associate watched the whole thing. Her lips went pale with fright, and she was filled with regret.

"Shen Wan, these bags are a gift for you. Thank you for helping me before." Xie Liuzheng could tell at a glance that Shen Wan wanted to refuse. "Don't say no. I want you to have them."

Such an expensive gift made Shen Wan uneasy. "I hardly did anything for you."

"Please don't turn me down," Xie Liuzheng said.

"I love flowers. Could you put together a bouquet for me?" she asked. "A gift of flowers from you would mean a lot to me."

Shen Wan pressed her lips together. "All right."

"I want red roses!"

Duan Xing favored champagne roses; Xie Liuzheng loved red ones.

After they finished shopping for bags, the two headed to a jewelry store.

Xie Liuzheng picked out the newest necklace and put it on. The sales associate showered her with praise.

She turned to Shen Wan for her opinion. "Does this necklace look good on me?"

Xie Liuzheng had a beautiful neck and shoulders. The pink diamond and silver mesh chain made her skin look as fair as jade.

"It's beautiful. It really flatters your complexion." Shen Wan reached out to straighten the necklace. "Absolutely beautiful."

Delighted, Xie Liuzheng paid without even asking the price.

That was when Qiao Yun walked in. She hadn't expected to run into Xie Liuzheng here, much less see her wearing the new necklace she had been longing for.

She was jealous of Xie Liuzheng's powerful family, exceptional talent, and beautiful face. Xie Liuzheng had everything.
