"All right." Ye Ruheng hesitated no longer. He summoned his mount, an Azure Luan, and raced toward the forbidden grounds in Back Mountain at full speed.

Azure Luans were Spirit Birds native to Cloudsky Mountain. Their blue-green plumage gave off a soft glow like mysterious gemstones, and they flew so fast they could cross from one peak to another in an instant.

Once he had gone, Ye Zhenzhen finally breathed a sigh of relief. As long as Daddy stopped her uncle from releasing the ancient beast in time, there was still hope of changing what came next. She gulped down her fill of milk beside her mother, played with her tiny hands and feet for a while, and soon fell quietly asleep.

The Little Glutinous Rice Ball slept soundly on the bed, while a storm erupted at the forbidden grounds in Back Mountain, whipping up waves of dust and sand. Spiritual power rippled visibly across the Barrier, but the disciples guarding it had vanished.

Something was wrong after all.

Ye Ruheng followed the ripples of spiritual power to the eastern side of the Barrier. There, pillar after pillar of fiery red light slammed into its formation. Someone was attacking the Barrier and had forced a crack through it!

Sensing the disturbance, the ancient beast Taowu imprisoned within grew restless. It roared and growled, struggling to break free of the seal.

This was bad!

Ye Ruheng drew his sword and dove. A fierce streak of icy-blue Sword Qi cut through the daylight and struck the person attacking the Barrier.

The man spat a mouthful of blood and crashed to the ground. His white robe bore subtle patterns of blue auspicious clouds—the uniform of the Cloudsky Sect.

"Junior Brother, how could it be you?" Ye Ruheng could scarcely believe his eyes.

His daughter's thoughts came back to him: My stupid, rotten uncle is breaking the Barrier that holds the ancient beast! Zhenzhen's prediction was true. Ye Rufeng had come to destroy the Barrier!

Caught in the act, Ye Rufeng was startled too. He propped himself up with his sword and said with a straight face, "Senior Brother, I noticed the Barrier acting strangely and worried Taowu might seize the chance to escape. I rushed over to repair it."

"Did you sense the disturbance in the Barrier as well?"

Repair it? By swinging your sword over and over until you forced a crack through it? What a barefaced lie.

"In that case, let's reinforce the Barrier with a few more layers together, Junior Brother."

With that, Ye Ruheng took out the Artifact, the Primordial One Ancient Cauldron, and flew above the Barrier. He inscribed intricate, precise runes, then joined Ye Rufeng in drawing on their inner energy to release wave after wave of powerful, pure force, reinforcing the Barrier layer by layer.

Ye Ruheng recited the incantation with unwavering focus. Beside him, Ye Rufeng struggled to keep his anger down.

By the time they finished reinforcing the Barrier, dawn was breaking. Ye Ruheng hurried back to his wife and daughter, longing to see them.
