Power Progression

Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix provides a documented example of a Martial Soul gaining skills through Spirit Rings and later undergoing repair.

Nature and Awakening

• A Martial Soul may manifest as a weapon or other tool, an animal-like possession, a summoned object, or a separately moving figure. Jodio’s Stand Arrow, Dai Mubai’s White Tiger, Oscar’s Sausage, and Jodio’s Stands demonstrate these forms 3 4 26 50.
• A holder can awaken with Innate Soul Power. Jodio’s level-ten Soul Power is treated as Innate Full Soul Power when he enters Shrek Academy 2 3.
• Spirit Rings grant Soul Skills, but the result is not determined by the soul beast alone: Jodio says the holder’s subconscious and mental power also influence the skill formed 7.
• Martial Souls can develop as their holders grow. Jodio says his first three Soul Skills are especially important to the future of his unusual Martial Soul 13.

Jodio’s awakening theory

Jodio proposes that Soul Power bloodline, Martial Soul quality, and mental power must reach a workable balance during awakening. He theorizes that a mismatch can produce a Martial Soul mutation, but acknowledges that his explanation is tentative and does not account for every case 44.

Manifestation and Abilities

Possession and summoning

• Beast-type Martial Souls can envelop or alter their holders. Dai Mubai’s White Tiger increases his attack power and defense; Ma Hongjun’s Phoenix surrounds him with flames and a phoenix apparition 3 26.
• Oscar’s food-type Martial Soul summons edible sausages. His Soul Skills can restore injuries and Soul Power or provide combat and poison-resistance boosts 8 31.

Separately manifested Martial Souls

• Jodio’s Stand Arrow produces Stands: independently moving manifestations he controls with Soul Power. Silver Chariot can fight even before he obtains a Spirit Ring 3 6.
• Subsequent rings give Jodio different Stands rather than simply adding attacks to Silver Chariot. His first ring grants the thread-based Stone Free; his second grants Gold Experience, which turns objects into living things; and his level-40 Stand, Crazy Diamond, repairs damaged objects and living beings 7 17 43.
• Jodio states that a Stand’s noncombat ability need not prevent its manifested form from fighting 6.

Mutation and repair

• Ma Hongjun’s Evil Phoenix has an evil-fire problem alongside its strong offensive potential. Physical training helps him manage its flare-ups but does not remove the underlying condition 3 5 12.
• Jodio uses Crazy Diamond to damage and restore the Martial Soul under controlled conditions. The procedure changes it into a purer Fire Phoenix and removes the corruption 44 46.
• Crazy Diamond cannot normally heal congenital defects or its own user, so Jodio does not initially know whether it can resolve Ma Hongjun’s condition 43.
