Background and History

Ning Rongrong is Ning Fengzhi’s daughter and a young lady of the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect. After running away from home, she enters Lin Ye’s café to hide from the elders looking for her. He persuades her to sign a trial attendant contract in exchange for a place to stay and access to the café’s VR game 1 11.

Her first visit to Night City ends in a frightening defeat: she tries to summon her martial soul during a Scavenger attack, discovers it does not work there, and is killed. Lin Ye challenges her to try again and teaches her to use a pistol. The victory makes her consider how firearms might address her sect’s lack of direct combat ability 2 3.

After acquiring cyberware in the game, she asks Lin Ye to bring guns and implants into the real world. He refuses to sell them directly but suggests that good work as an attendant might earn benefits. She takes up cleaning and serving customers, while continuing to pursue stronger equipment in Night City 4 5.

Ning later helps introduce Zhu Zhuqing to the game, arguing that Zhu should build her own strength rather than depend on her fiancé. When Origin announces its first Night City Mercenary Grand Prix, Ning spots a way around her six-hour daily play limit: other players can earn in-game currency and transfer it to her. She offers her sect’s wealth for real-world technology, takes café work seriously when it might help her obtain benefits, and uses the game’s Trading System to recruit family support for the Grand Prix.
