Chapter 35: Fang Ye
--Boss "ate" nine cards! --Boss ate too many cards, causing Corruption Value to exceed the limit! --After exceeding the Corruption Value limit, Boss ate more cards! And inexplicably turned the cards into a bracelet, then ended up looking half-dead and weak!
Even Huangfu Miaomiao, a player herself, couldn't figure out what was going on!
If it weren't inconvenient in front of Su Yuqing, she'd have opened the forum right now and posted a thread asking the player base!
While she was still in a daze, Su Yuqing's phone rang.
The call connected— "Captain Su, the Cleaners have arrived. Should we deploy them now?"
Cleaners referred to the professionally trained cleaning squad within the Supervision Bureau, specializing in cleanup operations.
"Has the card recovery been completed?" Su Yuqing asked.
"It's done. A total of six cards have been recovered," the voice on the other end replied.
Su Yuqing raised an eyebrow slightly, quite surprised. He hadn't expected to collect so many cards this time; ordinary Contaminants usually dropped only one to three cards.
"Is there a Squirrel Card?" Su Yuqing asked.
"Yes, there is indeed one card with a squirrel design on its face."
Su Yuqing nodded faintly. "That's fine. Submit them all to the main bureau."
The Squirrel Card's ability was hoarding, allowing cards to be stored inside the body without being digested. As a result, Squirrel Card holders often acted as merchants among Xenomorphs, and the Supervision Bureau's Xenomorph archives had records on this.
"Captain Su, what should we do with the person involved, Fang Ye?"
"If he's not injured, send him for a full physical examination, then arrange a psychologist for him," Su Yuqing said calmly. "I'll talk to him when I get back."
"Understood."
Su Yuqing hung up, pondered for a moment, then looked at Huangfu Miaomiao.
Huangfu Miaomiao instantly tensed up all over.
Without Feng Ling as a shield, facing the Supervision Bureau alone was incredibly stressful!
Fortunately, Su Yuqing didn't make things difficult for her. He said, "This evacuation operation had a wide reach. Many reporters showed up, and quite a few onlookers were nearby. Some of your kind might be mixed in, gathering information. You and Feng Ling had better stay in the car and not come out. I'll have a reliable driver take you back to Qingjiang City."
Warmth surged through Huangfu Miaomiao's heart, and her skeletal eyes filled with gratitude!
What a good person!
Su Yuqing glanced at the sleeping Feng Ling and added, "If she wakes up, tell her I'll send someone to repair the truck and help her get the deposit back."
Huangfu Miaomiao nodded repeatedly, like a chick pecking at rice.
"I can see you have no trouble communicating with people, so there shouldn't be any issue with Feng Ling controlling you," Su Yuqing said calmly. "Zhou Diao mentioned using a Xenomorph's potion in the cave. Normally, such transactions are strictly forbidden, but you saved them. I want to express my gratitude for that. Thank you."
Huangfu Miaomiao: "..."
Her little face flushed bright red.
Su Yuqing let out a soft sigh. "You and I stand on different sides. You helped us this time, and I can suppress the fact that you're a Xenomorph for now. But next time we meet... as the head of the Qingjiang Supervision Branch, I'll have to report your situation to the main bureau."
Huangfu Miaomiao: "..."
Her face turned from red to white.
Having said what needed to be said, Su Yuqing turned and got out of the car, closing the door behind him.
Inside the car, Huangfu Miaomiao was dazed, lost in a fog...
She thought: Was that a warning? Was it? Wasn't it?
She couldn't help but turn her head to look at Feng Ling, filled with grief and grievance: You sure sleep soundly!
In the small meeting room, the secretary gently placed a cup of tea in front of Fang Ye, then sat down to the side, opening a laptop to prepare for note-taking.
The meeting room door opened, and Su Yuqing walked in briskly from outside.
"Sorry to keep you waiting. I just got back from Jiangkou City."
Su Yuqing sat down on the sofa opposite Fang Ye, revealing the same refined and gentle demeanor he had when first meeting Feng Ling.
"You're Fang Ye, right? How did the physical exam go? Nothing serious, I hope?"
Fang Ye had already completed the checkup, washed his hair, taken a shower, and changed into a clean set of clothes provided free of charge by the Supervision Bureau.
He waved his hands nervously. "Nothing serious. The Special Forces let me evacuate first. Everyone took good care of me; I didn't get hurt."
"Ensuring the safety of citizens' lives and property is our duty," Su Yuqing said with a smile. "Don't be too nervous. I called you in just for a routine interview to understand the situation."
Fang Ye nodded cooperatively. "Mm-hmm, okay."
Su Yuqing said, "Tell me how you first discovered the cave. I read your personal file on the way. You served a year and a half for theft and were recently released. You're currently unemployed. Why were you in the mall's underground parking lot?"
Fang Ye's face paled a few shades. "You... you're sending me back to prison?"
Su Yuqing slowly shook his head, maintaining a proper smile. "The Supervision Bureau only handles cases related to Xenomorphs. Other matters fall outside our jurisdiction."
Fang Ye relaxed a little at that.
But then he heard Su Yuqing add, "However, if anything remains unclear, it may be necessary to request assistance from other departments—such as local security. I trust you can understand that?"
Su Yuqing smiled.
"Un—understand!" Fang Ye quickly straightened his back, hands fidgeting nervously on his lap. "I'll cooperate fully!"
"Then let's begin," Su Yuqing said.
Fang Ye nodded vigorously and told them everything he knew.
An hour later, Fang Ye left the meeting room.
The secretary typed the final punctuation mark and asked Su Yuqing, "Is this meeting record acceptable? Do you need any revisions?"
"Delete everything related to the Xenomorph by Feng Ling's side," Su Yuqing said, gazing out the window at the sky. "Don't mention a single word about Zhou Diao and Xiao Li using the Recovery Potion."
"Understood." The secretary revised the document as instructed, fingers flying across the keyboard.
"If Feng Ling enters the Supervision Bureau while still accompanied by a Xenomorph, it'll be hard to keep it hidden for long," the secretary reminded Su Yuqing.
Su Yuqing smiled faintly at that, looking at a bird circling in the sky. "She won't be joining us."
The secretary sounded a little disappointed. "Is that so? I thought she might take Sister Ye's place, and that would ease some of Zhou Diao's burden."
"She can't replace Ye Zheng." Su Yuqing turned back with a light smile and said to the secretary, "They are two completely different people. Neither can replace the other."
Downstairs, Fang Ye stepped out of the Supervision Bureau building.
He turned around, looked up at the towering structure, and felt dazed.
It seemed like only a moment ago, his fate had been intertwined with so many important figures here. But the moment he walked through that door, his destiny snapped back to its original track—
He was once again the useless, nameless nobody.
His life had gone through such a breathtaking upheaval, yet nothing had really changed.
Fang Ye pulled a small pack of wet wipes from his pocket.
Feng Ling had tossed it to him in the cave. There was still one tissue left inside, now the only proof of that experience.
Fang Ye stared at the wrapper in his hand, an indescribable melancholy settling in his chest.
Was there any way he could reconnect with those people?
I'm going to go all out today!
